yes but Red acquired those players, so not only does he not lose any credit for having great players he gains it for being the reason he had those great players. we had a BAD team when Red took over, Phil has only taken over very good teams that already have most of the pieces.

Jackson is a very good coach.  You can't take that away from him.  He took teams that were good but not winning titles and got them to win titles.  In terms of coaching, it would be hard to argue that Jackson isn't one of the best ever as is of course Red (other than Red, hard to think of say 5 better coaches ever than Jackson).  The difference though and the reason that you can't really compare Phil to Red is that Red did it all.  Coached teams to titles like Phil but also scouted, drafted, traded, etc.  Different era but Red did so much it is really hard to believe.  Celtics fans get this but many don't and it isn't worth arguing with those who don't.

Red is the greatest GM ever. As far as coaching, Phil and Red are close. :o
Once you are labeled 'the best' you want to stay up there, and you can't do it by loafing around.

  • You say when......
The triangle offense, also known as the triple-post offense, is an offensive strategy in basketball. Its basic ideas were initially established by Hall of Fame coach Sam Barry at the University of Southern California. His system was later refined by former Kansas State University head basketball coach and current Los Angeles Lakers consultant Tex Winter, who played for Barry in the late 1940s.

Jackson is just an opportunist. He never created anything. That quote is from wikkapedia....it was said jackson created the triangle offense, he didn't.
