Because 6'11 guys that can average a double double while being a career 39% three point shooters do not often become available mid season without having to give up something in return.


No one say he is a star, but he can be more the just a solid role player for some contending team.

I recall reading on RealGM that New Jersey is interested in Kirilenko.

There has also been much mention of Utah needing to address its luxury tax situation, with Kirilenko's sizable contract being considered the most likely to be traded in order to get below the threshold.

Murphy's name was linked to Detroit during the high point of the Carmelo Anthony trade rumors.

Does this make sense for all three teams?

Nets trade Murphy, Petro, 2nd rounder; receive Kirilenko
Utah trades Kirilenko; receives Hamilton
Detroit trades Hamilton; receives Murphy, Petro, 2nd rounder

Utah gets below the threshold, slots Rip Hamilton in the 3 alongside Bell.

Detroit gets out of Rip's contract, opens minutes for Gordon, and with Murphy bolstering their frontcourt, looks to make a run for a low playoff seed.

Nets acquire Kirilenko's Bird Rights (?), and clears more cap space for next year.
