this much i know: sactown is going now where this year.
they also have cap room plus sam dalemberts 13 mil expiring and future star big man demarcus cousins.

with cousins developing nicely, and sam capable of starting at center would they be interested in trading j thompson and his 2 year deal to the c's for bbd and his expiring?

why for the c's?
while thompson has had his share of growing pains he is a remarkably skilled young big who, imo, just needs to be in the right situation to thrive.

he would bring the c's more height, athleticism and rebounds then bb can give us. he may not possess bb's tenacity and will (yet) but he is no slouch. right now he produces at near the same level as bb and has a far higher ceiling. he is one of the few players i'd trade bb for in the middle of a championship run.

why for sac? dc and jt are very similar players, though dc has far more upside. bringing in bb to play off the bench clears up room for dc to develop. bb's 18'jumper balances their front line scoring better allowing dc to play the post more.

jt is purely a paint scorer  and while dc has a face up game he is far more effective in the paint. the two leave each other little room to operate, which forces dc and his better (of the two) face up game away from the basket where he is less effective.

sac has a highly serviceable center in sam dam who can start at c or come off the bench if dc/bb works better in the starting line up. at he end of the season both sam and bb and come off the books between the 2 that/s 16 m  off the cap.

as much as I don't like BBD's recent shooting spree, he does provide a nice scorer off the bench when his shot is on and he's playing within the flow of the game.  Not sure if JT provides that offensive option

This is one of the only trade ideas that I think has merit.  If Ainge feels Davis cannot be resigned at an acceptable amount, then upsetting the flow of a very good team might be acceptable.  JT does not provide the midrange threat that Davis does but I agree his ceiling is much higher. 

The critical, and unknown, aspect is whether JT's BB IQ permits him to produce within the Celtics' system.  Also critical is the fact that Big Baby provides both energy and an anchor for the second unit.  Whether JT can provide the energy is a question, and certainly he will not provide any anchoring stability, at least this season.

Jason Thompson makes 2.18 million for the next 2 seasons, and is starting right now at the 4.

Carl Landry is expiring, and will look for more money after this season.

Sac is trading Carl Landry first.

I agree with the OP (TP)

I'd rather have Carl Landry this year, because he'll contribute more in the bench offense. He's a better scorer, an more of a 3/4, so he probably would mesh well with the O'Neal brothers and Perk.

Otherwise, Thompson seems like the best fit longterm. He's a good rebounder and has length, wich is always a positive. The Celtics need good rebounders to ignite the fastbreak, and Rondo + JT seems a good combination.

I don't know if financial savings are enough for Sacramento to make the deal, but I guess BBD wants more playing time and money than DA is willing to offer, so DA would pull the trigger.
