Marquis Daniels is a big injury risk too + the team lacks alternatives behind him.

I think the Celtics can get past having Ray play more minutes at SF with West playing more SG minutes then having to go in the playoffs short big men.

Neither is a great situation, but size kills in the NBA still.
Generally speaking, I agree ... but I would be very worried about using that tactic against the Lakers.

They have two big physical wing players in Kobe Bryant and Ron Artest. Both are talented post players who could feast on undersized wings/guards.

Unlike most other teams who lack two wing players with those attributes.

---------------------------------------------------

If I have Garnett for 35 minutes and Perk for 30 minutes and at least one of the O'Neals ... versus that scenario ... I'm not sure which one worries me more.

That's assuming that Kobe/Artest are playing a lot more than RA/PP though.

Big Baby for Grant Hill?  ****!

How old is Hill? 37?  First we give up a big for a small, then young for old.  Um, no. ::)

Plus, he snubbed the Celtics last year so there is no way I would give up anything more than Harangody for him.

Based on the Finals Phil will have Artest in the game every minute Pierce is in the game. Kobe is the only other defender the Lakers have for Pierce and Phil doesn't want that match up, especially as it allows Rondo to abuse whatever PG they have in at that point.

Still I don't think matching up with Lakers is something I'm too worried about yet. We've got a long long ways to go.

I wouldn't scoff at the trade proposal outright.  I also wouldn't do it right now either.  Remember, we still have JO and Perk out.

However, if the following 3 things occur, I'd think about it:

1) JO and Perk both come back at 100% (or close to it).

2) Daniels proves ineffective guarding 3s.

3) Danny doesn't think he can or doesn't plan to sign BBD this summer.

The age thing really doesn't matter with Hill if BBD is going to walk next summer anyway.  If BBD is going to walk (or Danny won't pay him), he might as well be 40 years old.

Still, I wouldn't give up BBD unless we have to.  Even if BBD is going to walk, I still think he helps us this year UNLESS Marquis is ineffective or goes down for the year.

I would really love that Grant Hill lands in our team this season but not at the expense of BBD. If  BBD is what Phoenix wants in return then maybe Dannny can pull this trade by offering other pieces and getting another player - let his genius mind find the way. I hope though we don't just get this kind of trade but Hill will be a tremendous addition in this team. He could slide from SF to SG or PG. In difficult match ups like LAL and Miami we may need him to back up either PP or Ray. And if we want to take out the offensive threat of an opposing PG, say, Fisher/Blake, House/Chalmers, Bibby/Crawford, etc we can use him at PG ala Ron Harper of LAL. At PG, he can easily score a lot of points against any of them and defend them with ease thereby creating a huge mismatch. Not even a CP3 will get through him.

I do agree that if Perkins/Jermaine/Shaq/KG are all healthy BBD's minutes should fall considerably.

Basically he'd be splitting backup PF minutes with Jermaine and wouldn't see any at C.

In the playoffs KG should be going 35+ so there just wouldn't be much burn for him.

Even if they are all healthy, you can't count on that lasting. Even if you assume he won't get a lot of minutes you can't go into the playoffs with a 4 man big rotation containing Shag and JO. It's a recipe for disaster.
Yeah I wouldn't trade him because of the huge health concerns.

Even assuming full health (a major assumption), i don't agree here. The 4 rotation is KG and Baby until either is hurt or traded. Despite Baby's ability to play some 5, i find it very hard to believe Doc would give any of his minutes at the 4 to JO.

Let's focus on THIS year. The idea is to win THIS year!  First of all this team is darn good as they stand. They don't have any obvious major flaws like Miami. Trading BBD would be plain stupid and risky. Risky because he's a major piece to the puzzle. We already lost one major piece in Perk and so we can't afford to lose another in Davis. He is easily the best player off the bench this year and we need him badly because he does soo much for this team, not to mention the lack of depth up front due to injuries. I understand a lot feel we need another wing, but I disagree. I thought too after losing TA that we needed to find somebody even for lock down defensive purposes alone. Look at it this way..How did we fill in for Perk? Very nicely I'd say to the point where you almost forget Perk is even on the team. Other guys stepped up and eventhough they aren't Perk they fill the void well enough so the team doesn't miss a beat. Ok, same thing with Daniels and Delonte they will fill in for TA and eventhough they aren't incredible defenders they are still rather good on defense and their offense can make up for their lack of D. All I am saying is this team has an outstanding ability to plug in small holes (even large holes like Perk.) As long as it's not two large holes (Davis) which would be created if you dumped him. The team just couldn't make up for that type of lose with just Hill.

I agree. It's like how people said with West coming in, we wont see Nate much anymore. With the 4 Rotation, its still KG and BBD.  With 5, whoever is the healthiest gets start, 2nd healthiest as primary back up. Would have to consider this too: if they're in foul trouble, if we're up by huge numbers, and matchups, etc.

Good to be that deep with the 5 position! ;D

With some of the Nash speculation and Phoenix not being super outstanding(other than that 22 three point shooting night)
Nash could be up for grabs. And with Nash out of Phoenix, that would then set up the other ring chasers to be bought out or traded. So enter Grant Hill...

I see him as being too classy to ask for a buyout, and I know the main reason for him staying in Phoenix, instead of coming here, was to stick with Nash. Now enter NBA Trade Machine

BBD for Hill?

Works financially, and makes sense for our SF hole come playoff time(and during the regular season so Pierce/Ray can rest) If Nash left, it would make sense as BBD could be a building piece along with Warrick
And Hill would be the perfect backup SF, and still better than some of the starting SFs on other teams

He can score well from all areas of the floor and play solid D. Would you sacrifice Davis who might end up walking next year to solidify our bench unit for the 2 year window of Championship opportunity? This also goes to assume that our bigs all come back healthy together

I would do this. Grant Hill would be a great shooter of the bench for us and Glen Davis is starting play really lousy.
