Chauncey Billups would be perfect for this Celtic team.

Now assuming Rondo can get his head on straight and take it to the hole regardless of who is guarding him and whether he makes foul shots, he can be that scorer.  Will he lead the team in scoring?  No.  He might not even be in the top 3.  But he can be that guy who gets the buckets when the offense breaks down. 

I don't see Billups filling that role. 

I am doubtful Rondo becomes that scoring threat with this roster. There are a lot of players in this supporting cast that like their touches + shot attempts. I don't think Rondo takes a larger role as a scorer with this supporting cast ... I think he concentrates more on setting everyone else up and I think Doc Rivers will be pointing him in that direction too.

I'd love him to take that step because he is the best player at creating his own shot on this team. He was for most of last season too ... but Doc wanted him to keep feeding the Big Three in the second half of last season instead of making a change and giving Rondo some more responsibility (scoring wise).

Rondo is the only player who is athletic enough (explosive athleticism) to beat whatever defender they put on him. Ray Allen and Paul Pierce are more vulnerable to top defenders effecting their offense. Garnett can still create his own shot at an extremely high level but getting him to do that more often is easier said than done. I'd rather bet on Rondo.

The presence of two versatile scoring big men who can shoot, catch and finish on the move in the starting line-up also makes Rondo more dangerous on the drive then he was last year (when Perk couldn't catch/shoot, Baby couldn't finish and Sheed couldn't move).  Makes pick and rolls featuring Rondo far more dangerous.

Well, it depends on what you mean.  Can we expect him to do it all the time?  Probably not.  However, the question is, can he do it at least part of the time?  I'm more confident in that. 

Because, as you said, he's really the only one on the roster who is able to create his own shot against anyone.  And that's exactly why I don't want Chauncey.  At least with Rondo there's a chance he becomes that player.  With Billups, there's no shot.

Billups would be an excellent backup PG next year and years to come. But the idea of trading our 2 main PGs for Denver's PGs is...down right dumb. Rondo still has more upside, and fits for our rebuilding/retooling mode in 2 years. Billups will start a fast decline by then like Cassell did.

Get Billups without losing Rondo and maybe you're on to something.  Nate is nice but he can't guard bigger players.  Billups would be a perfect backup PG.

He's a playoff tested winner, loves the game, and has a short term contract aligned to expire with the rest of our savvy vets. Also, Denver is prepping to blow it up with Melo wanting out! So now is the time.

I know there's a lot of Rondo love on these boards, but his "hit or miss" performances and inconsistencies have really stagnated our offense in the playoffs (Not to mention he shot 26% from the line in the Finals). The problem is too, I think "he is what he is" and has peaked. I say we trade high now, grab Billups and Ty Lawson, win back to back titles and evaluate rebuilding in 2012 with Pierce, a boat load of cap space and some nice young mid level prospects with playoff experience on the roster.

Rondo is not a winning future and I would love to see Danny move in this direction:

Wow. I can't disagree more. I've never seen the kind of stuff Rondo does. Billups is about 34 years old and got hurt last year.  Rondo doesn't even get paid that much.

Lawson is good, but he's no Rondo.

Jsaad have you changed your opinion on Rondo? His shooting has not improved but he has somehow gotten better and the things he was already great at.

I wouldn't trade Rondo for anyone in the league.  However, it has long been my "daydream" for Chauncey, when his starting days are over, to return to Boston to be our high quality backup to Rondo.  I think he would be a perfect fit and have said that many times.
