Not much. They would need to stretch that cap space into finding a starting SG and SF, and a backup Center (who can start for a few months), and at least 1-2 backup wings.
Or we could try an sign and bigger name and fill in the rest with minimum type guys? You would think that Joe Johnson wouldn't warrent a max deal after his playoff exit. But of course, that likely will be wrong.
But in the end, it does look like we aree screwed should PP walk.
We could. And I would strongly consider giving up my season tickets for next year. They would have two starters making the league minimum. That is not good basketball.
But what about the year after? If we go under the cap after KG's contract expires, then could we fill in another good player after that?
Besides, if PP does walk, what are our other options besides blowing it up completely?
KG is on the books for two more years. Also, Perkins is up next summer, so we would need to either resign him (with a raise), or fill that spot. So we would not be looking at much, if any cap space next summer.
But you are right, if PP walks, blowing it up is probably the only choice. But the point is, renouncing everyone, and using the little cap space they have to fill the roster is not a good way of rebuilding.
Now, if we could get a true franchise guy like Lebron or Wade, that would be one thing, but short of that (and that is VERY unlikely), the C's have much more flexibility by looking at sign and trades with Pierce and Allen (even if its just for trade exceptions), and then looking at having better cap space in a couple years.
