I guess my question is, what the heck is GS planning on doing next season???
They want to trade away their #6 overall pick, their 25ppg scorer for cap relief and already traded away a 20ppg scorer for 2 nobodies.
Are they really prepared to go into battle next year with Stephen Curry, Biedrins, Radmanovic, Charlie Bell, Gadzuric, Turiaf, Azubuike, Wright, Randolph, and Morrow with no first rounder? I feel like this team could average under 80ppg and easily be worse than last year's Nets. Shut down Curry and who scores? Equally importantly, who buys tickets to see this bunch play?
Curry
Azubuike
Morrow
Radmanovic/Turiaf/Wright
Biedrins
That's their starting 5.
And they still won't even have much money to go after a free agent... and who's going to want to play there? Only somebody wildly overpaid.
The plan isn't to compete(actually some may argue that with the high payroll they had they didn't really compete this year). It's to make the salary level as low as possible to either make it look like the team can make good size profits or to sell the team as soon as possible. The GSW owner, Chris Cohen, is into the IRS for huge money:
LinkIf he can make it look like the team is profitable or make it so the team is desirable to purchase because of a low operating capital, the IRS might negotiate something with him. But if not, he could be in big trouble.
So Golden State, much like New Orleans is in full salary dump mode and wants nothing but ways to get out of owed salary in return for their players with big contract and their draft picks.
