Just about every team overpays for every player they have... I wouldn't expect it to be any different for Perk who is still young, shoots a high %, and plays top notch defense.

Just look at Gortat, dude is a back up and how much is he making?

In the spirit of crazy ideas with convaluted rationale, try this:

The day after the C's season ends, DA offers Perk straight up for Greg Oden.  Gives them 24 hours to decide.

Salaries may miss by a hair -- easily rectifiable, but here's the rationale:  Oden is potentially the biggest bust in NBA history.  But upside still exists even though he's been nothing but heartbreak for Portland. Portland may just want this annual experiment to end.  Portland gets an experienced defensive big who will work great alongside Aldridge, anchor the team's defense and provide intensity for a team ready to take a step toward contending.  He does not have the offensive or rebounding potential of Oden, but he has the defensive ability now, and can actually stay on the court.  Celtics take a risk of giving Perk away for nothing other than an injury waiting to happen -- but risk is mitigated by 2 factors; 1) Oden's upside is still strong and, 2) Oden's contract comes off in 2012 along with KG and Sheed -- clearing salaries almost completely for a rebuild.

I doubt Portland would bite, but who really knows if they'd be motivated to end their yearly headache. It'd be more than anyone got for Sam Bowie or Darko!

I'm just hoping that after his inconsistency this season due to injury he actually holds the kind of trade value we'd like him to have.  I'm afraid we might be disappointed by how little they could get for him.

I vote $9 million. As the average, not the starting salary.

Thing is, the agent will ask in the $10-11 million range. He would have a point too. The average NBA centre is overpaid, and there are guys with less current production, less talent and less upside who are making that money.

He felt a sense of loyalty back then and I'm sure he'll feel the same come the next contract.

On the contrary, he could point out this as a reason for him to get more money on this contract.

DISCLAIMER: Not saying he will, and he probably won't (Perk seems like a high-character guy), but he could.

I love Perk but am I the only one who thinks he can only defend Dwight Howard (a bad offensive player) and a 38 year old Shaq? Can someone tell me anything else he does besides 8 points 7 rebounds a game and being good on defensive rotations?

Couple blocks a game.  But yeah, he hasn't shown the ability to be much more than that.

Perk's rebounding and defense and passable offense (high FG% mitigated by high TO%) push him above the MLE level, but only by a few mil.  I'd like to get him for 4/32.

I do worry that he's not a good fit for Rondo on offense. Slow, bad hands, a deliberate finisher, no jump shot.  Puts a lot of pressure on Danny to replace KG with a player of similar offensive calibre within the next few years.

2016 CelticsBlog Draft: Chicago Bulls

Head Coach: Fred Hoiberg

Starters: Rubio, Danny Green, Durant, Markieff Morris, Capela
Bench: Sessions, Shumpert, G. Green, T. Booker, Frye
Deep Bench: CJ Watson, H. Thompson, P. Zipser, Papagiannis, Mejri

It's for this reason I think he's on the way out. The future is not plodding.
