Calipari Interested In Bulls Job

http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/66370/20100504/calipari_interested_in_bulls_job/

John Calipari is intrigued with the Chicago Bulls’ coaching job and would be willing to listen to a pitch from management, NBA and NCAA sources told Yahoo! Sports on Tuesday.

Sources say the combination of roster talent, tradition and market make Chicago one of the few NBA jobs that could pry Calipari out of Kentucky. The Bulls have been hesitant to pay the $4 million-$5 million annual packages it would take to lure high-profile coaches like Calipari.

Calipari coached Derrick Rose at Memphis. He is also close with Cleveland’s LeBron James, and shares representation with two of the Bulls’ top free-agent targets – Miami’s Dwyane Wade and Toronto’s Chris Bosh.

Sources say Calipari “hasn’t connected” with Kentucky’s athletic administration in his first year on the job, and that could contribute to his willingness to rekindle a long-standing goal of realizing NBA success.

If this happens I truely believe Chicago will land LeBron or D-Wade.

I think D-Wade would be the more likely signing though because I believe that LeBron wants to be seperate from Jordan and wants to win his rings with a different franchise.

If this happens though, a major free-agent will be going to Chicago and Chicago will be the  best team in the league if it is D-Wade or LeBron...

I'm not quite as sure that Lebron or Wade would be inclined to play for a coach like Calipari.  They've probably noticed how few college coaches become success stories in the pros, especially immediately.

Calipari is scum.

I hope, for the Bulls sake, this doesn't happen.

Calipari's greatest abilities are:

-Recruit
-Yell at his recruits so they play every game

That does not correlate to being a successful NBA coach

Rick Pitino offers partial evidence of this truth.

Calipari has a 72-112 coaching record in the NBA, not the kind of guy NBA players are dying to play for. Plus he has no real connection with Wade or Bosh or James despite what that article says.  Ya he so close with Bosh and Wade that's why they both chose to play for Calipari in college  ::)

I really think only 2 coaches have any pull to help sway a players signing decision (but it's still not that much sway) - Phil Jackson (due to the rings, Jordan, etc.) and Mike Krzyzewski (due largely to the players having liked playing for him from in the Olympics).

After 18 months with their Bigs, the Littles were: 46% less likely to use illegal drugs, 27% less likely to use alcohol, 52% less likely to skip school, 37% less likely to skip a class

Wade isnt going to Chicago, he is basically the same player as Rose. A SG in a PG body that can score and play good defense. I think the Bulls would be better off going after a big like Stoudemire or Bosh.

I actually think Rose and Wade are the PG and SG versions of the same player. Rose is much more of a pass first guy - yes he's a scoring PG, but he runs an offense, he doesn't dominate it.

Lebron is so good - that even though he has similar skills to Rose or Wade - you get him if you can.
