Have someone lay out Ginobli???  It seemed as if after he put that foul on KG that landed KG on the floor, the whole team seemd to tuck into a shell.  The Spurs absolutely set the tone with that, and it seemed very unlike us to not retaliate, and I would have loved to have seen it.  I'm sure it would have made Ginobli think twice about going to the rim so much.

edit: fixed subject - Chris

You disgust me saying to take out a player.  I'm sure you would love that if someone did that to someone on our team when the guy is playing well.

Yeah, I agree (TP) ... there's a big difference between playing physical and playing dirty. This team is good enough to not have to resort to nastiness and "retaliation" ... this isn't hockey, after all. That's all we need now is to lose a player to suspension!  ::)

You don't have to try to injure someone, thats not what I said.  Your absolutely taking words out my mouth.  And if anyone had done that to a player on my team, especially someone like KG who is coming back from injury, he would have certainly got wacked on the way to the rim.  The Celtics of old, ala 1980's, would have certainly given a hard foul.  There is NOTHING wrong with a hard foul.

The way you worded it, you made it sound like to injure.

People have to remember that this isn't the 80's any more and the game isn't as physical.

Someone who fouled Ginobli hard, could have gotten a flagrant or worse flagrant 2 which could have switched the momentum in either teams favor, it is a 50-50 shot there.

Also, what if Ginobli got injured on a hard foul, then what whould have we all be thinking?

I understand what you are thinking, and agree someone but also don't agree.

I'd say play really physical defense on him to take him off his game, and if because you are playing really physical defense on him and it causes you to give a hard foul then so be it.

...well, if it makes you guys feel any better, the Spurs lost to the NJ Nets last night - not trying to imply that Sunday's game was a fluke but the Spurs are definitely 'beatable' if the Nets can beat them.

I hate to see big guys trying to draw a charge from a smaller guy.  They rarely get the call, and it encourages more guys to take it to the hoop.
Bigger guys are supposed to stuff the smaller guys or commit a hard foul trying.  That's how you protect the paint.

I agree with the first half of your statement, however, I think if the big guy has to stuff the little guy, or foul him, it is because the defense broke down in the first place.

What made the C's defense so good 2 years ago is that KG and Perk beat the little guys to the spot so easily, because they were always in correct position, that instead of having to take the charge, the ballhandler wouldn't have anyplace to go to even attempt to get past them.  Now THAT is what good basketball is.  A block, or taking a charge gets everyone excited, but if you can close down the lane before they even get to it, that is what wins championships.

Sometimes the defense breaks down, but that's not always the case (fast breaks, etc.)
When I mentioned "hard' foul, by the way, I didn't mean it in any sense of a take-down play, just aggressive defense.

Ginobili didn't play and Tony Parker is still injured.  Also, we lost to the Nets as well and this entire board used injuries as an excuse all season so I think we can let the Spurs use it for one game too.  They've been playing great basketball as of late.

Next, I see no reason to lay out Ginobili.  It was a clean block and the game was still close at that point. If you do it later on in the game then it really looks as if you're trying to hurt Ginobili.  Also, Ginobili didn't attempt to hurt KG.  He got all ball, he wasn't close to KG's head, I don't see why anyone would try to hurt Ginobili.  If Rondo makes that block we're going nuts calling it a great play.  If Ginobili went up and really tried to hurt KG then maybe I'm saying go give him a hard foul on the other end, but in this situation I don't think it was warranted.

Don't worry -- by the time the playoffs roll around KG will be ready to drop F-bombs on 6-foot point guards.

Cruel, but funny.

as I was watching the game I was paying attention to KG a lot and how he seemed to be gaining confidence.  Running around... slapping his hands... rejecting shots after the whistle...   Looked like he was starting to feel it.

Then he got owned by Ginobili... he hung his head down... and I remember thinking, "I don't want to overmagnify one play, but this could shatter this team's confidence if KG doesn't immediately come back and attack hard".

Nothing happened.  Celts got blown out.

Do really think that was a clean block? Watch the replay and look at Hill. He has his hand in KG's back and grabs his whole arm and flips KG back. Someone should've made a hard foul on Hill and foul should have been called.
