I just hope that a player that great is in a Celtics uniform at some point in my life so I can watch a performance like that as a fan of the team.

while paul pierce is not on larry's level we all need to remember and cherish just how great a celtic paul is and has been... he may end up being the greatest celtic since bird that we see in our lifetime and i have to admit i would be happy with that since he has provided so much to us as fans!

He's not Bird but, we've been more than lucky to watch him throughout his career.

All time FTM in Celtic history another feather in his Celtic cap.

Lots of Larry talk today about his passing mostly.

How about his shooting?

Don't you EVER title something "Who wants the chills" and then start with "Lot's of talk about his passing mostly"

It is NOT cool to give me the idea Larry died, even by accident.

Sadly, I found that game rather embarrassing. It seemed like they were actually going for the record, an act we would consider selfish and classless for most players. I'm not big on double standards.

I don't blame the players. I just think things were simpler back then and fans were less annoying and difficult, so players could act more naturally. Now we have so many holier-than-thou fans who expect inhuman behavior from players.

I thought you meant he died for a second.

Wait so you found going for the record embarassing? And then you say things were simpler and better back then because fans wouldnt make such a big deal about going for the record?

Are you contradicting yourself?

I think I agree with you. I love competitiveness and going for records is certainly a part of that. I dont think larry would ever do something like that at the expense of his team though. That is embarassing. Like going for a triple double when your team is getting blown out.

He was actually just going for the record, not because he wanted it but just to get in a jab on McHale. Kevin broke the record a few games earlier. I didn't think it was Bird's record that McHale broke. In reality, it underscores how UNselfish Bird was as a player. He could have scored a ton more points than he did, but he was a team player. There was another game where he sat out the 4th quarter when he was one steal or assist from a quadruple double. The coach told him he could go back in and get it, but he said that there was no point.

There was also the time that reporters were bugging him about Magic getting a lot of triple doubles when he rarely did. He got something like 6 in the next 9 games and told the reporters that he could get them whenever he wanted to. Larry did a lot of things as a player but chasing stats wasn't one of them.

Watching the Bird/Magic show on HBO this past weekend was an eye opener with regards to the pain Bird went through his last few years.  Daily game day trips to the Doctor for traction?  That's insane.  Larry Legend actually ascended in my eyes and I didn't think it was possible.

He was unreal. I can remember a playoff series where he got 20+ points and 10+ rebounds, spent the night and the next day in traction at the hospital and put up close to the same stats the next game.
