One thing that really gets on my nerves about Sheed is his refusal to take a charge. I know he's lost substantial foot speed and it may look as if he simply isn't capable of getting suitable position fast enough anymore, but its obvious to me that he chooses not to. it was especially obvious during either the Nets or Cavs game (I forget) when someone was barreling in the lane and he had plenty of time to get position for a charge, he instead got in position then jumped backwards and swiped his arms for a foul call.

It's obvious he isn't a fan of "flopping" in basketball as he said during his whole (hilarious) "NBA without borders kids" rant. I think Sheed views taking a charge as flopping to a degree and simply chooses not to do it, 8 out of 10 times choosing instead to swipe violently at the ball and receiving a foul call (even if he gets all ball)

Shaquille O'neal is very similar in that regard. I watch alot of basketball and I can honestly say I remember seeing Shaq take a charge once in his career. It was a few years ago, and of course he didn't fall down, he stumbled backwards after the contact. I think its a pride thing with these guys, and to them taking charges is looked at as flopping. its almost noble in a way, but when you re watching a game and there's a glaring charge take to be had, and instead we get a silly foul, its tough to watch.

I really wish Sheed would quit that and just opt to go for a charge take every once in a while, i doubt anyone (but probably himself) would think any less of him. I'm positive people here have watched more Sheed than I have in his years prior to being a Celtic, my question to you is have any of you ever seen him take a charge ? I haven't

I would really appreciate if Sheed can use his size inside the paint. Its nerve wrecking to see him fall in love with the 3 pt line and chuck numerous 3's for no reason.

His size can help us score easy baskets, and get offensive rebounds if someone misses a shot. Sheed being active in the paint can help us a lot.

In order to take a charge, you have to be quick enough or have the foot-quickness to position yourself, and get to a spot in time.

(But maybe if Rondo would stop trying to alway go for the wrap-around tip steal, our bigs wont always be in a compromising position)

Basically, I just dont think Sheed has the foot-quickness anymore to get himself in position/adjustment to take a charge.

If Sheed is in the post he's excellent, and if he is hot from inside and moves it to the three (situation-ally) I'll be happy as well.

But Sheed doesn't have the negative influence that people/media would like to give him. Sheed gives you 23Mins, 10pts, 4reb, a steal, and about a block per game.

The problem with this team is the starters. THEY need to be much more consistent.

I don't want my 35 year old sixth man dropping down and drawing charges.

I have the same sort of problem with him, but in a different way. I've watched him very closely on defense and I think he dogs it a lot. For me though, it's not about taking charges. I don't really think that a worn down, past his prime, 6-11, 35-year-old, PF/C is a great candidate to take charges. What he should be doing more of is blocking, or at least challenging, shots. He too frequently just swipes at the opponent, committing a half-hearted foul, handing the other team points by putting the guy on the line. The reason why it infuriates me so much is that most of the time he reaches in he could have very easily made a shot challenge - it doesn't appear to be about quickness, just lack of effort. I don't know if he's just horribly out of shape or something and that's why he doesn't do it often, but whenever he decides to act like he's a bulky 6-11, and not some overmatched 6-7 rookie PF, he's pretty good at altering shots. I know his minutes are down, so a drop in numbers is to be expected, but this is the first time since his rookie season that he's averaged less than a block per game.

I'd like to see him hack people with hard fouls that come really close to being flagrant.  Hard enough for the other team to complain but not hard enough to draw an actual flagrant call.
