Chicago gets nothing in this deal, and Boston gets too much. I don't see why Washington would do it. They don't even get a solid young player to rebuild with. If Washington is trading Butler, they are not trying to "win now." News flash: They suck. Arenas and Jamison are already old and can't win; how is Ray going to help? They need to get rid of their guys and start completely new. It's over for them. But Washington just can't give their players away. They need young players with potential, not JR Giddens.

1) Chicago dumps 9.5 million the next two years.  Enough to go after more then one FA.  (Wade plus someone else)

2) DC is in "win now" mode.  They do not think they stink.  They think they are ready to win now.  Why else are they trading the youngest of their so called "big three"?

I have no idea. If they are in "win now mode," why would they trade their best player for an old, almost washed up guy?

Jamison is 33 years old, and Ray is 34 years old. You think Washington is going to take the league by storm with two aging jump shooters who play no defense? Sounds like an instant title for the Wiz.

I live outside of DC so I get way to much Wiz coverage.

They are built around Gilbert.  Gilbert and Butler are not getting along.  Therefor, they are looking to move Gilbert.

Even today, there is a report about the coach getting ready to shake up the lineup.  He says he is in DC not to make the playoffs but to win a title.

They still think they are a top team that just needs an adjustment.

Well, what do you want Flip to say--"I'm here in DC not to win a championship, but to stink up the place!" I'm sure that would go over well with the fans.

If they were looking to blow up the team, he would start greasing the skids.

Living around DC, isn't there a lot of talk down there going around about how Leonsis is going to buy the Wizards from the estate of Abe Pollin and that there aren't going to be any trades with the Wiz until the ownership group gets settled. That's what my DC contacts are saying.

Interesting idea and the concept is a good one --> improve the SG slot with a younger player under a longer contract and to provide a solid backup PG off the bench.

Ignoring Hinrich's contract, my main concern at this time is moving TA for Hinrich.  In a perfect world, I'd make that swap with no reservations.  Unfortunately, Marquis is out for another 1-2 months and PP is out for another couple of games probably.  At this point in time, TA fills the bigger hole on this team so I wouldn't make the deal.

If Marquis is healthy at the trading deadline and Wyc is willing to take on Hinrich's deal, I'd strongly consider the trade with the only reservation being the possible disruption to team chemistry.  Having Butler and Hinrich going into next year would address a number of issues with the expiring deals this year-->no need to resign House or TA when you have Hinrich and hopefully Daniels (partial MLE contract-->also assuming Doc won't be playing Walker) back on the roster.

Actually, that's not that big of a problem.

Hinrich is big enough to start at SG until Pierce comes back.  Scali would still be the backup.
just threw up in my mouth a little.  any trade we pull off should either remove Scal from the team or remove him as a primary backup.

It actually changes nothing in terms of where Scali is on the rotation.

Sounds like Butler is ready to get going.

Every time I was dealt, I had better years with my new team than I had with the old one. You don’t want to get traded, but you can turn it into a positive. I know I did.

DC wants to move Butler.  Lets give them a player that can help them still win.

Boston trades Ray, JR, TA and this years 1st

Receive Butler, Hinrich and DC's Trade Exception

DC trades Butler, James and a Trade Exception

    Receives Ray and JR

Chicago trades Hinrich

Receives TA, James and Bos 1st

Boston upgrades the roster with both Butler and Hinrich.  Butler goes to the starting lineup and Hinrich becomes the larger PG for the 2nd team that will work well with House

DC gets to see if Ray works with Gilbert and Jamison and try and make a run to the playoffs

Chicago drops half a million in salary this season, 9.5+ million next season.  They pick up and extra draft pick.  And who knows, TA could impress as a starter next to Rose on a lotto team.

(just checked, the trade works without the JR trade exception part.  That was thrown in there when I was just doing the Bos/DC part and didn't want to waive anyone)

Just curious, but can we actually trade our pick? We don't owe Minny a future 1st still?

No.  They took this past years.

As stupid as it sounds, everything I've heard over the last few years is that they DO think they can win with this team. That's why they haven't tried to trade Jamison for prospects, and why they've resisted trying to unload Gilbert's contract. Just because it doesn't make sense doesn't mean it isn't true.

hmmm...I actually like it... Like some have said, I hate giving up Ray, but the idea of getting Butler and Hinrich is very intriguing. I dont like Hinrich all that much but it certainly upgrades the bench and gives us room to let the starters rest more. It makes us much younger and much better.

I hate losing the three's, free throws, iq and clutch play of ray allen... But thats what Pierce is here for...

Rondo/Hinrich
Butler/House
Pierce/Quis
KG/Baby
Kendrick/Sheed

That is a killer deep ten man rotation. Hinrich is a bit bigger than house (not much) but he could guard 2's while eddie guarded 1's. Butler might be quick enough to take on SG's especially in the east. It allows us to use a better 2nd unit ball handler and putting Quis in a more comfortable back up role...Wow the more I look to it. The more I really like this idea. Makes us better, younger, and deeper.
