Wont the thunder just match any offers?

Well, in the summer of 2012, he would be an UFA, providing he doesn't resign before that.  So the Thunder wouldn't be able to match.

Surely he wont walk away from a max offer in 2011 when he is restricted. I can't imagine him resigning only a 1 year deal.

But if he does, by all means chase him down.  ;D

With free agency and 2012 in mind, I hope the C's can keep things open that year. No more than a 2 year extension for Ray, keep Perk's deal under control (10/year), and take Pierce 1 year at a time.

Should be fun to see what evolves.

Like all stars, if Durant is offered a maximum extension when he's first elligible he'll take the deal.

Yeah, I used to think he would want to just get out of OKC, but seeing how they have been turning things around, I think you are right.

So, while I was watching today's blowout of the 76ers I couldn't help to notice that not only are we stacked this year but we already have such a strong core for the future

Rondo - PG I can't say enough about this guy.
Hudson - has the potential to be a good SG even though he's a tad undersized, if not a great back up point guard
House - PG/SG I'm assuming we'll have him for a while
SG/SF - We've still got Giddens and Walker, I realize we didn't pick up the option on Giddens and Walker is hurt but I still believe these guys have some untapped potential. If not it's nothing a trade or good draft pick couldn't fix.
Williams - PF I really think he's going to finally fill he's high draft potential here. We're already seeing it now in these first few games.
Perk - Easily one of the most underrated big men in the league. He's not going to astound you offensively but he doesn't disappoint on defense. And he can drop a few points when necessary.

As far as the bench goes, we'll probably have to develop that again. Though I'm sure Pierce, Garnett, and Allen will be around for a while, contracts not forbidding. So as they age I'm sure they'd still be great options coming off the bench for some pop. Maybe wishful thinking but who knows?

Just some food for thought.

I am going to respectfully disagree with you about having a strong core for the future.

What scares me about the future of this team after the big 3 is that just about all of the young guys are role players.  The only one who is close to being a star is Rondo, and he really needs to prove that he cannot be gameplanned out of games before he is more than a very good player IMO.

And we have seen young teams built around role-players before.  You know what happens to them?  They overpay their role-players, and then are stuck in mediocrity for years and years, just hoping to get the 8th seed.

While I think Rondo and Perk are nice young players, and are absolutely perfect for this team right now, if the C's do not find a way to put a couple legit All-Stars around them, then this team might be in rough shape again in a few years.

The fact is, in the next 2-3 years, Danny is going to have to break up this core in some ways, in order to get a new infusion of young talent.  Whether it is by sign and trading Ray, using his expiring contract to weasel a high pick out of a team hemoraging money, trading away Pierce or Garnett when their contracts are expiring, or trying to turn Perk or even Rondo into even better young stars to build around, something dramatic is going to happen to this core.  And a lot of you are going to hate it when it happens.

I completely 100% agree with this, as much as I hate to say it.  When Danny had said that he thought Red should have tried to trade some of the players off the late 80's celtics to bring in some new talent to keep the winning ways fresh he kind of tipped his hand and let us all get a sneak peak at what his plan is gonna be.

.....I just hope he doesnt trade Pierce away, I never want to see Pierce in anything but a Celtics jersey, and for some reason I cant escape the feeling that Pierce would be greatly offended if we traded him away after all the years of rebuilding that he stuck though.

Good discussion..I agree that Danny will have to make some changes in next few years. That's his job and I remember him saying that anyone is tradeable for the right people.

I do trust that Danny will do what's best for the Celtic's organization, though. It may not be the most popular, but it will keep the C's from slipping back to years of mediocrity like before.

The more i think about it, the less i think Marquis will be back after this year. This year is a perfect time to spend the MLE on a younger player that could be part of the future.

So...

Ray Allen- Bird rights take care of our ability to sign him

Tony Allen- Thanks for the memories

Marquis Daniels- Too bad your 30 because I'd love to have you here.

Eddie House- He'll have Bird rights as well, right? 3 years with one team?

JR Giddens- PEACE!

Brian Scalabrine- Would sign for veteran minimum

Shelden Williams- Thanks for the year, your welcome about your next contract, wherever it is.

---------------------------------------------------------------

Now if Danny agrees with me then we'll have the full MLE, and I'm trying to figure out how much Travis Outlaw is worth. Over in Blazer's Forum they seem to think that he "needs to be traded before he's worth nothing"

If Davis comes back and plays good then could we sign Outlaw with the MLE and trade Davis for another young stud? Or do you think that Davis is a better building block?? OR do you think that T.O. is worth more than the MLE???

I CANT SLEEEEP!

NOTE: in the blazers forum they had hope or Rajon Rondo coming to them in free agency because he "doesn't want to be a Celtic anymore, and he has a bad attitude" I chuckled when i heard this.

Rondo & Perkins are the only two players I want as starters now and in the future.  If the Celtics are to remain successful 4 years from now then Shelden, BBD, Hudson, and others should not be starting.

I'm hoping the Celtics make a move in the near future for a very good SG, continue drafting the best they can, and get some good PF/C's off the free agent market.

Contrary to BBD's vision he will not be an all-star, nor a fringe all-star.  I have a tough time believing a great team has him as their starting PF.  Same with Shelden.  They're both bench guys.

Hopefully they can stretch this thing out for a while.  I don't think I can handle another 20 year period of losing and misery. ;)
