I think it's safe to say that this is probably Maroney's last chance here.

The New England Patriots are preparing for life without their leading rusher, as Fred Taylor's injured right ankle will require surgery, according to a source close to the situation.

The surgery is not expected to sideline Taylor for the season, assuming there are no complications.

mabey this will finally convince maroney he's not on dancing with the stars.

He stutter steps so much behind the line it's beyond belief. He even does it on kick off returns for pete's sake.

Crap.  I picked up Taylor on my FFB squad a few weeks ago, I haven't been starting him but I was figuring that I'd need him for when Washington inevitably shuts down Clinton Portis.  I'm hurting on my running backs, I'd have had a helluva squad three years ago (also have Larry Johnson; my only stud RB is DeAngelo).

My hope is with more consistent carries he will be able to get into more of a rhythm. Can't remember who it was, but someone on CSN sports tonight said Maroney needs the ball more than he has to get it going and be at his best but said that'd only happen if Taylor's ankle was going to be more of a longterm thing. Well here is his chance because id bet he is going to get the ball the most of the 3 RB's, atleast at first.

Maroney needs to start running north to south and stop with this cutbacks and bouncebacks that are getting him nowhere.  His style is what's aggrevating.  If he gets through the line, he can be a terror once he reaches that second level. Unfortunatly, we haven't seen it at all.

no, none of the pat's rb's are worth owning.  there is no number 1, carries will be split, and they dont run the ball often.  unless the league is massive, the pat's rb's should not be owned.

Our league's waiver wire has been so bereft of running backs, the four "best" running backs available were Taylor, Morris, Mauroney and Faulk; there might have been one other player mixed in, but it was pretty much 1-2-3-4.  I grabbed Taylor just because he looked like he had a chance to start taking at least 12-15 carries a game and I figure the Pats will ultimately have plenty of scoring opportunities.

As a Pats fan, I'm so frustrated with Mauroney I'd rather see those carries go to LawFirm.  Mauroney just doesn't have a good sense of when to dance and when to hit the hole.  GOOD running backs know when to be patient, and when to just turn upfield and get what you can get.  Seems like he always does the exact opposite of what he should be doing.

At least LawFirm hits the hole hard and keeps going until he can't go no more.

Just saw this.  This will hurt the Pats.  Maroney better really pick up his game.  BJGE may get a shot.

Sounds like the ankle was worse than they thought because now they are talking about it possibly being season ending.

Not good news to hear.

However, the blow is lessened by the fact that the Patriots have that platoon at the running back position.  Still have Sammy Morris, Maroney, Faulk, and you'll probably see some more of Benjarvis.

The fact that they seem to have a committee of running backs helps the fact when one goes down.

Yup ... if Maroney wants to prove his worth, he needs to make the most of this opportunity ... he may not get another.
