I took the "just won't die" part to heart, so for me it comes down to TA hatred, which won't die probably ever - just ask Gerald Green, the Daniels "deal" which was supposedly made a month ago but still isn't finalized, and the sagas of Leon Powe and Glen Davis. The Sheed signing was my favorite moment of the summer, but it just happened very quickly and then was done. The Shelden deal just happened and wasn't a big deal anyway. I feel like the Ray/Rondo stuff went away around draft time and then completely when the Sheed signing came.

So I went with the Daniels thing. The Davis thing was fun since it allowed for unreasonable trade proposals with interesting financial subplots and plenty of value discussion, but it's over now. So it was a close second. The Powe thing was just more disappointing to me since it seems like a lot of little things went wrong to send a player I truly liked to a conference rival. It's like Posey last year for me - I understand the position of both parties and it was interesting while it was up in the air, but it can't be my favorite because I wish it hadn't happened. I love a good TA bashing, too, and that doesn't look like it'll end anytime soon and also leads to unreasonable trade proposals, but unless and until we move him for something of value, I can't put it too high up there.

However, I went with Daniels for a variety of factors. First, it was a really out of the blue signing in a lot of ways. I personally didn't see it coming so it was a pleasant surprise that we went after an athletic wing player who can score, who's still pretty young but has experience. Second, it involved a whole lot of TA bashing, since Daniels will presumably take away TA's few minutes completely and there was plenty of time and opportunity to talk about how bad Allen is and how great it is to have somebody better. Third, it allowed for a lot of positional debate - who does Daniels back up? Is he our backup 3 or does he share the backcourt with House as a pseudo-backup point? What more do we need to put around him to round out the bench? With Daniels and House, do we have a greater need for another point guard or another small forward? Very interesting and a great opportunity to read into what fellow posters think about the state of the team and particularly the bench. Fourth, with the sign and trade option, there were proposed trades to unload some salary while bringing in Daniels and often other players. Always fun. Fifth and finally, unlike most of these stories, it really seems like it just won't end. For how many weeks have we been hearing that the deal is ready to go, but the Celtics are still trying to sign and trade? How many times have we heard that the Daniels situation will be resolved by the end of week x? And it's still going. That is the story that won't die. And I've been loving it.

Oh, and the Marbury thing was fun, but just too sad to be my favorite.
TP for the post that really summed up the summer.

the Powe saga, hands down. you'd think he was the second coming of Jesus Christ or something? :)

I like the Sheed signing for myself, but I feel you about the Powe saga.  It was pretty hilarious all the whining over Powe. LOL

This thread just shows how boring things have been lately.  I am so ready for basketball to start.
