Jeffries is what he is - a 6'11" defensive specialist that can guard four positions. I would be very interested if the Knicks got desperate, for example:

Jeffries, Hill and Robinson ($3m per) and $3m cash
for
Scalabrine, Davis, House, Allen and Walker

New Yorks saves about $5m next season, and picks up a couple of young players on the cheap.

Boston adds a veteran defender behind Pierce, an excellent backup point guard and a promissing rookie big.

Rondo - Robinson
Allen - Daniels
Pierce - Daniels
Garnett - Wallace
Perkins - Wallace

Jeffries, Williams, Giddens, Hudson, Hill and two open spots for veteran minimum depth.

Why oh why would you help the Knicks achieve their goals? If they can't trade Jeffries or Curry, they're ******.

I wouldn't give up rotation players for Jeffries. I would, I suppose, consider Scal and TA for him straight up, and I think New York would jump at that. But is he even worth that, especially since you're taking on extra salary next year for what may just be dead weight? I can't see how they'd give us Hill, and I want no part of Robinson - fun to watch, but not a guy who will ever contribute to a winner at the NBA level.
Go Celtics.

If NY trades him with cash to a team that buys him out, then Celtics should look to sign him.

But at his current contract, no way.

Until the 2011 off season, when they add Yao or Parker to whichever star they land in 2010.

This is a completely lopsided trade for Boston.

Jeffries - Scalabrine is an upgrade
Robinson - House is a major upgrade talent-wise
Baby, Walker and Allen - Hill and $3M is an upgrade long term, since Baby is irrelevant with the additions of Wallace and Williams (and Jeffries/Hill). Plus, we gain a couple of extra roster spots for vet minimum contracts.

I meant to add in that I don't see New York throwing away Hill AND Robinson just to get rid of Jeffries's contract - for Curry, absolutely, but not just Jeffries.

On the flip side, I'm not sure it's such a slam dunk for the Celtics. Factoring in the money, Jeffries is not an upgrade over Scalabrine at all. You can't factor $3 million in savings at the end to make Hill better than Davis, Hill and Allen, but ignore the fact that we'd have to pay Jeffries around $14.5 million over the next two years v. only $3.4 for Scal. Plus, while Jeffries showed flashes in the past, he has been pretty bad the past few years, not really much better than Scal.

Robinson is a much better all around player than House is, and is younger, no question. That said, I might actually prefer House on our team. We're already lacking on bench shooting, so losing House would be very tough, and Robinson doesn't help there. And you have the same defensive problems. Robinson, however, gives you another guy who can handle the ball and he's a young guy with tons of ability. While I see him as a guy who will fill it up on bad teams throughout his career, not a contributor to a champion, I can see that he's an upgrade over House. But on this team, not as much.

As for the last part, I think Davis has much more ability to help the Celtics THIS year than Hill or Williams and I'm not convinced Hill has a huge ceiling. It's not like a Rondo-Hill combo would be a championship core down the road. I get that Rondo-Davis isn't either, but all I'm saying is the future doesn't make the present sacrifice worth it. If we were not worried about competing this year, then yes, it's fine, but going from Davis to Hill is a downgrade.
Go Celtics.
