i am usually a pesimist, but for some reason, i am ok with this. beckett was stud, bucholz showed some composure, brains, and heart (3 things i was unsure about) and lester is pitching well again tonight. the bullpen did well; in the 2-0 game, papelbon looked better than he has in a long time. most of the yankee damage was done against guys who normally would not be in there (the two kids up from pawtucket). the pitching has been very good, despite going up against a very good lineup, and playing in a AA stadium (i can hit a lob wedge farther than derek jeter's "homer" yesterday".
as for the offense, well, there is not much nice to say about it. i do not think it is a great offense, but there is talent there. right now, they are pressing. the guy on barstool sports said it right (
http://boston.barstoolsports.com/), ortiz has to stop feeling sorry and apologizing, and come out with a chip on his shoulder. we can argue about what he did, but the past is the past, and he has to hit right now. i would have played him tonight, considering pettite is actually better against RH batters than LH batters, and a homerun in yankee stadium is roughly 168 feet away from home plate. ortiz is pressing, the whole offense is pressing, but they will snap out of it, though it does not look like that night will be tonight.
