Doc made a comment going into the summer league that Giddens had caught up with Walker.   In terms of a player Doc would trust this year, I think Giddens has the edge.  Walker has more upside, and may be of some value in a trade.  But Giddens may be the player Doc would feel comfortable with, this year.

Walker has the size and I think respect of the team. Until Giddens either grows a couple of inches, or gets some PT, I dont see him catching walker

Giddens doesn't even need to catch up Walker, he's already better than him

or...you have 2 expiring contracts in scal and tony to find an experienced vet that doc will trust over a guy that needs to be mentored

soomehow, judging from the level of demand for scal and allen, it seems that other GMs share celticsblog's fans' opinions of those two.

dang....maybe those other GMs are reading and learning from our posts!!!!! if so....

oooooooooo.... scal is superhuman, the key to our last championship.

and tony allen, heck, he is better than sex!!! i wouldnt even take wade for allen unless miami threw in another player or 3.  ;D

Not sure Walker is that much bigger. Giddens has longer wing span I believe, so is a wash; however both are definitely smaller than Pierce.Hopefully they can make up for it w/ hops and energy. Pierce is sneaky long.

I'm starting to question Gary's gut but, if this is true it's the best move for all concerned.  Let's see what we got in Walker and Giddens.  I have to laugh when I read so much angst for backup wing on a team with so much talent.

talent? walker can't defend and can't hit jumpers and what talent does giddens exactly have? i just don't think that either are ready to handle an important role that this team needs. walker nor giddens are the answer...giddens is really too small to play wing

When I mentioned talent I wasn't being specific to SF.  The 2/3 positions are interchangeable, IMO.  Especially with all the size the C's should have at the 4 and 5.

I love when Sports Tonight talks trash about players and says they can't do anything, and that they suck becuase they were on the bench during the playoffs... Doc doesn't play rookies.
He does if they can contribute, like BBD.

If they aren't ready to contribute, they aren't getting minutes in the postseason.

Being a rookie isn't the problem per se. Not being a great talent and not really knowing what you are doing at the same time means you aren't getting minutes in the playoffs.

i think they are set at the 2 with ray and eddie...i don't feel comfortable with tony, giddens or walker playing the 3..if anything i prefer keeping giddens at the 2...getting rid of tony and walker for a legit 6'7 wing

very good point...we saw what a "vet" like tony did vs the bulls...game six he came in and took 3 straight shots..all missed and the bulls cut the lead down in minutes...imagine if giddens or walker getting big minutes in the playoffs last year? it was obvious the way doc kept putting a tired PP out there he didn't trust nor feel those 3 could get the job done. what has really changed in 3 months? it isn't like walker or giddens have done much different IMO..to me tony will never improve and is only worth anything b/c his expiring contract

Doc has a propensity for not playing rookies.  Both BBD and Rondo played less than they could have.  I'll wait until proven wrong about Walker and Giddens.

What's changed is KG is back. People think if we had slightly better backups we could have gotten Paul a lot more rest. The fact of the matter is that without KG our margin of error went way down and we didn't have enough firepower on the floor when Paul and/or Ray were on the bench.

What if we'd have had Posey against Orlando? We'd have gotten more out of him backing up the 4 than backing up Paul. What happens when you take Paul out for Posey? If we don't have enough offense for Posey's guy to have to leave him alone outside the arc he becomes absolutely invisible offensively and the team lives or dies with Rondo and Allen's offense.
