Ben is basically washed up.  Why would we want him instead of Big Baby?  Why would we think he would be a suitable replacement for Big Baby?

Not trying to be a smart A but, hasn't Leon already been told bye bye?
I mean don't leave a spot open thinking he could be back. Fill it with a vet min guy

"if we lose out on Big Baby...."

we won't be choosing Ben over Glen. But BBD is a RFA so we can spend more for him than just your average UFA, the only ones of those have gotta be the old ones.

BW also had a Defensive rating of 98 last year.

I thought Wallace was playing better last year than the year before. Not sure I want him though.

I'd rather let BBD go, try to sign T.Thomas for peanuts since he's available and then let Powe tag along if he's not picked up in the future. I'd like to see the Wallace Deux combo, but both are two old to pull out the stunts they did back in 04', i'd rather just have sheed. The main concern right now is getting a serviceable back up wing player though.....

DA also needs to trim the group of TA, Scal,Walker,Giddens, and Pruitt as well, to make some roster spots available.
True Celtic = Leon Powe

Bring back the show!!!!

How bout Big Ben Wallace?

Wallace was bought out by Pheonix... Why not give him an LLE to play some big man off the bench. We would an incredible 4 man rotation down low and would have an unstoppable defense. KG, Sheed, Ben, and Perk are all interchangable and could each play with the other. I think this would be a great addition with the LLE or the vet min...Thoughts?

Ben Wallace has a reputation for being an animal on the boards and on defense (blocks). Unfortunately, reputations do not win games - playing up to them does.

Wallace has not played up to his reputation - be it perhaps for injury reasons - for the last 2 years in Cleveland. I wonder if he could do it - even for a few minutes a game - in Boston.

Of course, best case scenario would be he can play - with his help C's win and then we have the makings for the movie Tough Guys 2 - the basketball story.

Hey mods, we should merge the two simultaneous threads on Big Ben.

i don't think it's fair to say someone hasn't "played up to their reputation" when they broke their leg in the middle of a decent year with the cavs. that's like saying KG doesn't play up to his reputation because he was injured last year. we wouldn't be asking him to be a starter or the first guy off the bench...he's just insurance in case of foul trouble. i think he could handle that at least better than mikki moore did last year.

Do you guys watch basketball outside of Celtic land?

Big Ben is horrible on offense and defense now. He is going to retire.

Wallace is still a good rebounder/defender. He averaged 6.5 boards, 1.3 blocks and .86 steals in 23.5 minutes last year. He would be an awesome get to be our 3rd string center. He would be a solid signing as the 4th big if Big Baby leaves. We know Sheed and Big Ben are good fits together and Big Ben will not only provide good defense, but also give us much needed offensive rebounding that we lost with Powe. With KG/Perk/Sheed, the 4th big will only get to play 10-15 minutes off the bench anyway. If Big Baby goes, Big Ben and Scal can alternative those minutes depending on matchups (whether we need defense/rebounding or shooting that game).
