Felger just brought this up on CSN. Did the Celtics squash Marbury's game by limiting to being a pass-first player? Would he have been better if they let him be more selfish? I thought this would be interesting to talk about.

The panel on CSN concluded that, yes, the Celts limited him and made him too timid to be affective. What do you think?

Doc was telling him to shoot.

Paul Pierce yelled at him several times, "take the shot".

So know I think he just never got back into NBA form after a two year lay off.

I agree but I think the layoff from not playing for a year was the major reason.

Marbury is the one who chose not to be selfish. Remember how much freedom Cassell got when he was here? I'm pretty sure Doc gave him the same freedom he just chose not to shoot.

I'm inclined to agree. I don't think Marbury has too much left to offer, and I'll be surprised if he gets a deal anywhere other than what the Celts offered him.

Marbury squashed himself.

Boom.

Agreed, Bud.

He put himself in an unenviable situation.  He was fortunate the Celtics bailed him out and took a chance on him.  He did not make the most of that chance, though he may have made just enough (somehow) to get himself a place in the league once more.

Hopefully, that place won't be in Boston.

This seems bizarre to me. Didn't Doc want him to shoot? Marbury didn't have the confidence.

I'm sick of TV guys trying to start trouble and create controversy where there is none.

Hopefully he will return to Boston... He is way better than Tyronn Lue... and with a trainning camp under him... a whole offseason to tune up his game... getting to play with KG... and his experience from last year would teach him want not to do and how he can fit in the Celtics system better would all greatly benefit his game and make him play better.

You could've left it at "Boom."

It could've been you're most awesome post in CB history lol.

Anyways, he simply tried to be "the good guy" too much. He needed a bit of Cassell.

I think part of the problem was that he lost a bit of confidence with not being in game shape, so he couldn't be as selfish as he wanted.

But overall, he had a positive impact on his image, so he should be satisfied with what he did. But his struggles had nothing to do with the Celtics system. In fact, some skills that might've been overlooked previously might now be something teams look at now... like his defense and passing. I was really impressed with his court vision, passing accuracy and his timing was very good.

I'm one of those that want to see him in Boston againt though.

Well Felger just got a letter that says: You suck, stop pretending you know about sports.

So I guess that settles that.

I have to say I'm glad Marbury was able to put a positive spin on his rep this year though. He said all the right things and there was no trace of a problem with him.

Felger's made a career off the contrarily opinion, and rarely is it based in fact.

Doc said several times, as soon as the second game, that marbury had free reign to be steph and attack. He chose not to.

nothing to see here but felger trying to drum up a story where thier isn't one. He must be bored with wilfork reporting, he can't rip on the pats anymore.

They didn't make him timid, he came in trying to fit into the team. He was timid himself, I remember Doc saying to the media that he should shoot more.
