Quinton Ross anyone?

Ross seems to be yet another SG who can play minutes at SF. He's a decent player, but I'd rather see Walker getting any minutes that would go his way.

i don't agree with the minimum height req being 6'6". I'd like it to be prefereably - at least 6'8" and someone that can get some minutes at PF as well.

Yeah, I agree with that, ideally we'd get someone bigger.

6'6'' is good for a defensive stopper at SG (Pietrus) but it seems to me that usually the best defensive guys at SF are guys who are long and tall for the position (Tayshaun, Posey, Battier etc).

Sadly, yes.  We really didn't have a backup SF on our team this last season.  The result should be evident to pretty much anyone at this point.

I prefer him to what we have.  I would like someone who can knock the three down better and was a little longer (cough, cough, James Posey).  I could live with him.  However, he'd be a waste of a roster spot if we only wanted him to be the second wing off the bench.  On a team with All Stars at the 2 and 3, the second wing off the bench doesn't see much time.  Tony Allen or one of the young guys can fill that role (and the 5 minutes of time it requires per game).

I guess the point is the least we could do is get Ross, though we really have to do more than just that in order to fortify our bench at the 2 / 3 positions.

 Probably not. If Allen had played a little smarter but only scored 3-4 points a game I don't think that people would have been too thrilled.

Amen to that! Ross is a very good player who would fit in easily with the team. It also sounds like he would be a favorite of Doc's as well.

I think he'd be fine as the first wing off the bench provided we also strengthened the bench elsewhere.  From ownership's perspective a bargain bin upgrade like Ross would make a splurge for McDyess, Sheed, ZaZa or Gortat more palatable.

It's also more realistic not to expect to add impact players at the back-up wing and the back-up big positions with just the MLE and the LLE.  It's not as if we're so far off that we need such dramatic upgrades anyways.

Q Ross could do nice work in 10-15 minutes off the bench for Pierce.

I think what matters is the combination of players the Celtics pick up for the bench.
I am fine with Q Ross, if it is combined with McDyess and another big name FA.
If Q Ross is the biggest move made, then it will be a disappointing off season.

Hey, if it is determined that he would make a great back up to Pierce, then I am all for it, but I guess I don't know enough about the guy (except I have heard his name a few times).

  He might be a decent defender but he seems practically non-existent when I've seen him play. Kind of like having a Scals for a sf. The best thing you can say about him is that he isn't TA.

There is a reason (actually several) that he is a low end salaried guy who always seems to be available. He just isnt that good. We already have one of those in Mr. Tony Allen.

He's better then Tony Allen. I think the only reason the C's kept him, is because Doc wanted some wing continuity on the bench from 08 to 09.

I agree he is better than Tony Allen, but he's just not that much better. Just a matter of opinion I guess. He still is an 9-10th (IMO) situational defense rotation guy who is pretty much limited to playing SG. We need a longer, more versatile wing as a 6-7 man off the bench. I dont see him being any more valuable (than Tony Allen) to guarding a SF like Turkoglu, Prince or Carmelo Anthony, let alone Lebron James.
