if he would accept backing up Rondo I would, he would be better than Marbury

lol we'd essentially be spending millions on a coach for Rondo, but who wouldn't want to have Jason Kidd in Rondo's ear all season...

Whenever mentioning the best PG's in the game JKidd is always the first name out of Rondo's mouth. I think it'd be good.

maybe he's the one coach that rondo would listen to ;D

Unfortunately, Rondo needs somebody to teach him how to shoot more than anything - and Jason Kidd isn't on my short list in that category.

Ray Allen is on this team...

I don't think Ray is getting through to him.  Supposedly Ray and Sam were the only two players that Rondo really listens to, but it's been two years with only a marginal improvement in his jumpshot - and his FT% has actually gotten slightly worse from the 06-07 season.

I know we like to believe that anyone can master a jumpshot and be a good to great shooter with tons and tons of hard work, but its just not true. some guys just have great cordination for jumpshooting, some don't. if you locked rondo in a room for 18 hours a day shooting jumpshots for a few years, he wouldn't suddenly become ray allen. he would improve, sure, but there's only so far a bad shooter can improve.

Look a jason kidd, who still can't shoot consistanly after it being a weakness of his for his entire career. do you seriously belive a guy as dedicated as jason kidd doesn't work to be the best shooter he can be? what do you think his problem is more likely to be, lack of desire and work ethic or lack of the ability to shoot like a great gaurd shooter?

I think rondo will improve that jumper a bit, but much like tony parker or jason kidd, who have both done a ton of work on it, he just may not be a good shooter, and he may have a pretty average top end shooting percentage.

I'm not expecting him to turn into Ray Allen, but an eFG% higher than .375 on jumpshots would be nice...

He doesn't need to turn into an elite shooter.  He just needs to be good enough so he can hurt defenses when they sag off of him.  If they ever have to respect his shot, then I think he immediately becomes a perennial All-Star with averages near 20/12/6.  I'm just kind of disappointed in the relative lack of progress that he's shown to this point.

Did Dallas acquire his Bird Rights (if there were any) when they traded Harris for him?

If so, I don't see how Cuban lets him walk; he'll probably match or beat any other offer out there, which likely won't top the MLE.

In other words, I think Kidd can expect $5 mil next season, and perhaps a little more.
The Mavs can just barely get below the cap far enough to offer a max contract or close to it in 2010. Signing Kidd to a $5mil or more contract, takes that option off the table, and it's Dallas' best remaining opportunity to build a legit contender with Dirk on the squad.

They have Kidd's bird rights but it's not an easy decision for Dallas. That said, I expect them to sign Kidd, and use their expiring contracts in a bunch trades. That plan probably won't work .... but it'll be fun to watch Cuban try though!

I think three teams, plus Dallas, that need to look at Kidd strongly are -- Houston, Lakers and Portland -- The Blazers have the cap space to make Kidd an offer over the MLE ... otherwise I think Kidd is looking at the MLE.

I think Kidd will sign in LA. I wouldn't mind him backing up Rondo, but I'm not overly keen on it because Rondo is better than Kidd now, he doesn't need to learn anything.

I'd like to see him sign on with the Blazers. That would make them a real genuine threat in the West to the Lakers, and along with a healthy Houston the West suddenly is alive again.

I frankly don't think that Kidd's worth any more than the MLE, given the deterioration in his game.
