OK, back to the question, I say score it like golf (meaning low score wins)

Jordan  1
Oscar   2
West    3
Admir   4
Stock   5
Lucas   6

That is 10 to 11 so I guess 2009 wins

I would agree with this.

Then why don't you? Or rather does that "would agree" indicate some unstated condition :)

Jordan could go in by himself and possibly be the best class ever.  He's paired with two unbelievable players though.  I have to give the nod to this year's.
"Take this down," said O'Neal. "My name is Shaquille O'Neal and Paul Pierce is the (expletive) truth. Quote me on that and don't take nothing out. I knew he could play, but I didn't know he could play like this. Paul Pierce is the truth."

i concur....

i kinda wish Pippen didnt putter around in 03-04 with the Bulls for 23 games, so he'd be going in with Michael...that wouldve been a fitting end for Scottie, to go in along side his better half
Looking for a Sig designer....obviously i will be greatful with tps.

Looking for a Wire - Rondo theme....PM with ideas and I'll tp

Maybe the best class of the decade by himself but not the best class ever. You can easily make the argument for a number of players as the best ever, including Oscar Robertson. Not saying he's better than Jordan, but he's at worst close to as good, and he and Jerry West were well better than Stockton and Robinson. Lucas brings up the rear, but MJ doesn't come close to outshining Oscar and Jerry by himself.

I agree with his order of players but I don't think that they're evenly spaced, if you know what I mean. I think there's a big gap between the top three and the bottom three and the old timers have two of the top three. It's close, though.

Ugh...when is the NBA going to stop riding Jordan's coattails?

Jordan ruined the NBA for me. Or rather the NBA ruined itself by marketing Jordan up the wazoo. Sure Jordan was an amazing player, perhaps the best ever. But the NBA's marketing of the individual player rather than the team led to what we've seen during the 90s and most of this decade (the exceptions being the focus on last year's C's and many Spurs and Pistons teams). Yes, before Jordan came around, the NBA gave lots of attention to Bird, Magic and Dr. J, but, to me, there seemed plenty of focus on the rest of the team as well (McHale, Parish, Abdul-Jabbar, Worthy, etc).

This season, the NBA is forcing LeBron's Cavs and Kobe's Lakers in our face because that same formula (i.e., Jordan's Bulls) worked so well. I'm going to be bored to tears if it is Cavs-Lakers in the Finals. Maybe each team plays team basketball well. But every other word said by the announcers will be either 'LeBron' or 'Kobe'. And David Stern will love it.  :(

For the record, I also agree that they are not evenly spaced but trying to consider that was too complex for me to evaluate.  I don't agree though that Oscar is a 1B, I see it more like a clear 1, then a 2A and a 2b, then followed by the others.  Not so easy to do the math on that though.

This is starting to remind me of Simmons's pyramid scheme for the Baseball Hall of Fame. You could do something similar with basketball, because clearly Jerry Lucas is not on par with Michael Jordan. It creates interesting conversation.
"Let me call him," Floyd said.

The man shook his head. "O.J. doesn't give out his cell," he said. "He'll call you."

1980.

In my book,
Lucas loses to Robinson
West beats Stockton
Oscar & MJ are tied

But what breaks the tie is this:

West is "The" Logo.

If we're talkin logos, this may be even more iconic and lasting then that...

Sorry to disagree, V, but Hoyo has you there.

Wait a minute!!

I may be new here, but he doesn't have me on this.  We are talking basketball hall of fame not the sporting goods hall of fame.   http://www.nsga.org/i4a/member_directory/feSearchForm.cfm?directory_id=1&pageid=3938&showTitle=1

Back off, newbie!

In terms of iconic logos, if you showed a million people worldwide the NBA logo or the Jordan logo, more people would know the Jordan logo.

Here's a question, if Jordan and West were around at the same time, who would've been chosen as "the Logo"?

Except the NBA logo says, well, "NBA"  8)

yeah, put that in your sneaker and swhoosh it!!   ;)

But MJ's logo is more popular because it is recognized even without a label.  There are still people that don't even know the NBA logo is Jerry West, never mind some wouldn't even recognize the logo if not for the "NBA" posted on it.

Short answer I go with this year's class.

However an argument could be made that Robertson was a better pg than Stockton (depending on if you classify Robertson as a pg or a combo guard).
I also think Lucas is being underrated. He had 8 seasons in the top 5 in rebounding during his career and 3 seasons in the top 10 in scoring. 17ppg with 15.6 rpg is nothing to sneeze at.

Whether you call Oscar a pg or not he was a much better player than Stockton.
