if we're going to dish someone for the future there is NO WAY it is going to be Paul Pierce, his number will be retired, he will be top 2 in scoring, he stuck with this team through the hard times, thats not how you treat your players... especially the face of the team for a decade.

The NBA is a business. Sure, loyalty is important. But sticking with someone if you have the opportunity to improve is not good for the team. (I'm not saying PP is hurting the team, nor am I saying that we would be better today with Granger...)

Because the Celtics are a major title contender now and Pierce is a big reason why.

Don't look to blow up the team to early.

I agree that we shouldn't trade PP this season because we have the opportunity to win a title.

But let's say we weren't one of the top 2 or 3 teams in the league. Would you trade him then? Or next year?

At what point do you need to move on considering his mileage? We don't want him to lose his value too much. I'm assuming that a Granger for PP trade would only occur given their current play.

If the Celtics never made the moves to get KG and Ray, then yes, the Pierce for Granger trade would make sense to go with the other young player and high draft picks the Celtics would have.

But since the trades did happen and the Celtics are the top NBA team, no way do they move Pierce for Granger.

I would make the trade - maybe not on skill alone, but age and contract are considerations too.

Get real.

Also it's 'Tedy Bruschi' - he's not a bear.

Maybe the better question is after the season would you trade Pierce for Granger.

of course it couldn't be straight up

this is an idea I quickly made up I'm sure there are better ones.

I say if we win the title no, if we get knocked out, I would consider it.

Pierce's numbers in his fourth year in the league are eerily similar to Granger's...

Pierce - FG%: 0.442, 3P%: 0.404, RPG: 6.9, APG: 3.2, PPG: 26.1
Granger - FG%: 0.435, 3P%: 0.398, RPG: 5.0, APG: 3.2, PPG: 25.4

Pierce gets the edge in the rebounding department but their numbers are nearly identical in every other category. Comparing Granger to Pierce is a very fair comparison but Pierce has the benefit of seniority. Pierce still has a lot of basketball left in him and even if you look at 06-07 (the pre-Big 3 era) Pierce put up very comparable numbers to Granger. His role has changed since his earlier days but I'm confident he could put similar numbers and has the experience edge. No Granger isn't better than Pierce right now but he'll be as good someday if hes not there already.

Pierce was putting up better numbers when he was the lone star on a sub 500 team.

I dont know man Paul Pierce punched out Granger's two front teeth because Granger ran him out of the building that time!

Are you a Lakers fan? yes.
Is danny granger as good as paul pierce? lol pffft no
did PP "punch out" granger, no.

This harkens back to a Dunleavy is better than Jesus thread I read a while ago. I guess if you completely disregard defense maybe in some lost and forgotten land you can argue Granger over Pierce. Take defense and a hair of common sense into consideration and you realize Pierce is at least 10 billion times better than Granger. Can't blame this guy though since hes obviously a Pacer fan, I think I'll start a thread on their blog about JR Giddens being more valuable than TJ Ford.

Granger's putting up some big scoring numbers (not unlike Pierce pre-Big 3).  The kid can score, but he's no PP yet.
Yup

Nope, Granger is nice, but if you put Paul back on a team where he is carrying the complete load (please let this never happen again) he would burn Granger so bad. Paul is one of the best pure offensive weapons in the NBA. Time and time again every defensive specialist says that he is a close second to Lebron as the most difficult player in the NBA to defend.

  • I left Indiana. Because it was horrible.
I like Granger a lot...but he's not a crunch time guy and not capable of being the #1 guy on a championship team, which is something Pierce has proved he can be.

Also, posting an inflammatory remark and then disappearing from the thread...how is this not baiting/trolling?  Pretty much all of JR's posts take this form.
CB Draft Bucks: Chris Paul, Dwight Howard, Tobias Harris, Zach LaVine, Aaron Afflalo, Jeff Green, Donatas Motiejunas, Jarrett Jack, Frank Kaminsky, Lance Stephenson, JaVale McGee, Shane Larkin, Nick Young

DKC Bucks. Also terrible.
