Thanks cordobes and TP for the link.
Now see, that comes off very differently for me than the way it is being translated back into English. The person who asked the question about the favorite players said that he'd been a Celtic fan since the 80's and Paul was one of 5 players he thought was now the best and wanted to know who Paul's top 5 players were. I don't know how that was translated over to Paul but Pierce came back that his favorite players were the starters of his team.
Also in Spanish the Kobe comment is very innocuous. In my mind I translate the question along the lines of:
"Kobe is widely regarded as the best player in the world. Who do you feel is the best player?"
If that question was asked in English of any top 20 player in the league the immediate response of "I am!", which is exactly what he said, wouldn't even be close to a news story. Of course a top 20 player in the league is going to say I am. What other response would be expected?
But because of the translation and the way things are interpretted off that translation, a non-story interview becomes news. If this interview was done on WEEI and the same questions were asked of him in English and answered in English, no one would care.
