If he in fact showed any interest in playing for the C's Danny should look up to the sky and give God thanks, Darius is a very good player.

Let's not go praising the Lord just yet.  Miles hasn't played basketball in two seasons.  In 2006, he missed 42 games, and in 2005, he missed 19.  Not long ago, a physician certified that his injury was serious enough for his career to be effectively over.

Even when healthy, this kid was inconsistent, didn't show much range on offense, lazy on defense, and turnover prone.  Now, you strip him of at least some of his athleticism, and I think it's fair to project that he's not going to be playing in the All-star game any time soon.

He's a project.  Maybe he gets completely healthy, and ends up making something of his career.  More likely, he follows the path of Jay Williams and Dejuan Wagner.

Also, that was an awesome article. As Miles said, he wants the minimum and he wants a clause in his contract that says if he gets hurt, that the team won't have to pay him the rest of his money. WOW! A one time expectant of greatness gets hurt, wants a come back and DOESN'T want a big, long guaranteed contract? Sign this guy NOW! Ainge would be a fool not to take this kid. He's got the upfront dedication, and Boston has the vets to straighten him out if even he does have an attitude problem. To me it sounds as if this injury was his RUDE AWAKENING. He got the fame, and bright lights, and big contracts, then he got hurt. He had all the time in the world to settle down and change his way of thinking. Bring him in and put him to work
Can't stop, Rondo!

  • You know my methods, Watson.
he's an injured slasher who has no range, but when healthy, a good athlete.  whether he can come back strong, play defense in this system, or show maturity is a huge question mark.

like hobbs, i'm not ready to go overboard here - if posey stayed this guy would probably be an afterthought...

Danny is definitely following the Patriots model for success. Get huge contributions from players who were cheap, and fit the system extremely well. Always looking for undervalued players whether it be character guys (Corey Dillon, Darius Miles?), Guys a lot of people thought were done (Randy Moss, Sam Cassell/PJ Brown), the undervalued vet (the list is endless for the Pats, Posey/House). I think the next step in this seasons free agency will be to bring in some guys people haven't heard of who end up producing real well for the C's.
DKC:  Rockets
CB Draft: Memphis Grizz
Players: Klay Thompson, Jabari Parker, Aaron Gordon
Next 3 picks: 4.14, 4.15, 4.19

Have the Pats brought in anybody who hasn't played in 2 1/2 seasons, coming off of a devastating knee injury, who has had character and/or maturity issues with multiple other teams? ;)

The other difference between football and the NBA is that in the NFL, you have a 53-man roster.  It's possible to stash a couple of projects on your practice squad or on your non-active roster to see if they pan out.  In basketball, you only get 15 slots.  There is room for a project or two, but 1/3 of your roster shouldn't be guys you *hope* pan out.

He is definitely saying all of the right things which is encouraging.  It seems relatively low risk if he is looking for a 1 year minimum salary contract that even has an injury out clause.  Wow.  The Celtics would seem to be his first choice if his criteria is veterans, playoffs... so I would think he is ours if we want him.

This may not be Plan A (even after we lost Posey) but I have got to think that Darius is very much on Danny's radar.

I think its ok to have one character issue guy around a bunch of good character guys, but when you start creating a locker room with a rookie who got kicked off his college team, Miles, who would have got kicked off the Blazers if it wasn't for his contract, O'Bryant who basically got kicked off the Warriors for laziness, and your in the mean time subtracting character guys, that's not a good recipe (love the run on sentence huh?). If we had drafted Chalmers instead of Giddens and had guys like PJ and House coming back, I'd feel better about adding Miles. It seems too risky at this point.
