Why are you assuming he won't resign with the Clippers? If they resign him with a $100M/6 years contract and renounce the rights to Corey Maggete and Livingston, they probably have enough cap space to sign Baron Davis (a LA native).

Davis
Gordon
Thornton
Brand
Kaman

Maggete leaving will clear 10 million in cap space.  From the sounds of the article it seemed as though EB was more interested in winning a championship than making money so maybe he signs for cheap

"Clearly, if Elton decided he wanted to simply max out the dollars, he would have stayed in the deal, had a monster year and a lot more teams will have cap room next year."

His agent maintains he wants to stay with LA.  Im not sure i like the idea of davis signing with that team, but if he does they will certainly be fun to watch.

I think with the linup of Davis, Gordon, Thornton, Brand, Kaman, they are probably 7-9 seed in the west. And they give themselves a good window in about 2 years before brand and davis get too old and when Gordon and Thornton can mature.

Some keey pieces to this team though are also free agents.  Quinton Ross has been their lockdown defender the past couple years and dunleavy loves him.  he is a free agent.  Livingston is also a free agent who i would like to see them sign cause i still think he has an excellent chance to be a good player.  Also Paul Davis is their backup center and an unrestricted free agent.

This team has alot to do, but could be a good team next year if everything falls the right way.
CB Draft LA Lakers: Lamarcus Aldridge, Carmelo Anthony,Jrue Holiday, Wes Matthews  6.11, 7.16, 8.14, 8.15, 9.16, 11.5, 11.16

Wow. I didn't realize the Clippers had that kind of cap space. Renouncing Maggette and Livingston clears about 14mil off the books and they're already a few mil below the cap ... enough cap space to sign another huge contract.

I dismissed the Clippers at the start for Baron because I thought they'd have too much on their plate convincing Elton Brand to resign while also pulling of another massive move at the same time. Part of that was the complication of a sign and trade ... they've got a good shot at being able to pull a straight signing off though.

Baron and Gordon in the backcourt. Thornton, Brand, Kaman. The team has the ability to become a contender.

Wonder if their GM and Owner are thinking about this.
