Because I am set in my ways, how does this guy compare to, say, Ryan Anderson?

Not nearly as tall for one thing.

The thing with Duncan Robinson and Ryan Anderson is that both ended up getting overpaid.  Their contracts became issues for teams.  I actually hope that doesn't happen to Hauser.  He'll get paid if he continues on this trajectory, far more than I would ever imaging making, but these types (3pt specialists, especially tall ones) tend to get overpaid and it becomes a burden or an issue.

Hauser is not a UFA until 2025-26 (club option for 2024-25 likely picked up if he continues to play like he has) so we don't have to worry about that for a bit.  This could turn out to be an outstanding signing.  That is for sure.

There are lots of guys every year that have good size and can shoot well, but that don't last in the league because they can't do anything else well enough to stay on the floor.  A guy like Hollis Thompson comes to mind.  He shot over 40% from 3 his first two years with a good amount of minutes and attempts, but couldn't last in the league when his shooting suffered a bit (as he was guarded more, needed to do more than shoot, etc.).  Hauser will have to do more than shoot or he won't get time.

I'm missing the Evan Fournier role comparison. In a perfect world, Hauser will be our version of Duncan Robinson.

I agree with this. Think he could be a bit better on defense than Robinson; so instead of a “3 and No D”, Hauser could be a “3 and slight D” player.

Hauser has a good BBIQ but his body isn't as quick as his mind. He can be an average defender with some work. Robinson will always be really bad on defense.

At Virginia he made the All-ACC Academic Team.

I saw every game he played at UVa.

He can't create his own shot, unless it's shooting over an undersized defender.

He's not going to drive and finish at the rim.

He's a pure shooter, plain and simple.  He needs others to set him up.

Steve Kerr was like that.  Lots of successful NBA guys are like that.

Just think of him in this respect.  He's very limited offensively.  But he knows when/where to make the right pass.  He plays good position defense, and he's a strong kid.

Most likely he's a #9 player at best.  But you need those kinds of guys.

He has shown ability to play adequate defense and also some off ball movement to the hoop.  Will see if this is for real.

I think it doesn't make sense to "talk up" anyone until they consistently show something in real NBA games. Every year there's a player or two in summer league whom people hype up and get all excited for, and then those guys don't even make the team. Hauser is obviously better than that, and showed a little in real games last season, but he's still got quite a ways to go in order to be a player who's worth talking a lot about.

I mean, he’s one inch shorter than Anderson. He’s not as beefy and slow, and not as much of a rebounder.
