Smart responses, making him as likable as ever, but he does realize if he wants our team to stay as-is, all he needs to do is make a call to Brad and it’s done, right? Likewise, if he wants us to move JB/Smart for KD and that’s something on the table, he can lobby for it and nobody has to know? This is the power of being an all-NBA first teamer at 24 years old.

The name of the game is keep your superstar happy. We’re fortunate that, like the Bucks, we have one of the two most humble superstars in the league. The question is whether JT has the killer instinct just like Giannis—that’s how championships are won, folks. And JT can headline the 25 new inductees of the NBA 100 Team in 25 years if he wins championships in Boston, keeping us as the winningest franchise in history. Is it more likely to happen with JB/Smart or KD, JT?

Do you agree that JT effectively has veto power here—and if so, do you think JT realizes it?

I think he does have veto power, and I think no matter what happens, with it increasingly clear we are the front-runners for KD if we really want him, we need to back the decision of our superstar, whether he lets the KD deal go through or we run back the same team. Either way, it’s what JT wants and I just want what JT wants.

What one says in public can have little to no bearing on what one says in private. Especially when people pick over and dissect everything you say in public.

To answer your question, I think yes players know they have some influence over things. Good front offices tend to get the opinions of their star players before making their final decisions. But good luck getting any player to indicate to GreenlyGreeny what he wants

I’m sure he knows it. But I’d rather have the team be run by people in the front office, not the players.

Yeah.  JT is at a movie premiere.  I believe that Durant is a producer on that film.  I wouldn't expect a lot of candor from Tatum.

Saw this on Twitter, of JT being interviewed:

"Jayson Tatum on the #Celtics as currently constructed: "I love our team."

Regarding the Kevin Durant rumors, he says: "I don't believe everything I see on TV. I done seen some **** about me that was a lie."

I disagree.  I don't think he has the "veto" power nor do I think he wants it.

What do you expect him to say?  I believe him when he says he loves this team and probably doesn't want to see Brown (or anyone) traded.  But he can't say he doesn't want to trade for Durant as the trade might happen and then what?  It is like pre-emptively second guessing the front office.

It is a no win situation for Tatum no matter what he says.

when I read your posting, all I hear is "all my trade proposals to ship out Jaylen are to keep Jayson happy".

I think you're giving him credit for more power/authority than he really has.  Brad probably keeps Tatum (AND BROWN) in the loop on trade proposals to get their thoughts but if Brad thinks a deal is there to make the team better, he's going to make that trade regardless of the feedback from the J's.

What veto power are you talking about?  Unless JB has a no trade clause in his recent contract extension, I've never heard of that for a player before.

I think Greenly is suggesting that that JT has some soft power that he can exercise to get what he wants, LeBum style.

This. I think all first and most second team All-NBAers have that soft power.
