I am perplexed at Brad's decisions yesterday. The biggest flaw the roster had during the 2020-21 season (and there were quite a few of them) was NO wing depth. We had to give Nesmith and Romeo roles as there was literally nobody to back up the Jay's provide constant relief and hit some big shots. We complained about it after every game. We overplayed them so much until JB finally got injured and was out for the playoffs. They finally find a guy who fits in seamlessly with the team, is hitting above 40% on 3s, can really defend and loves to play with the J's. Literally the biggest necessity from last year is resolved with Jason Richardson and you don't even give him a full season.

Not to mention the entire league doesn't want anything to do with Theis who makes constant defensive mistakes and whose numbers have been going downhill for quite sometime. The Celtics roster, which Brad had improved on despite the underachieving for most of the year, is pretty much back to last year status. We got a piece back in White to replace 2, and we got even THINNER and less prolific at shooting than we already were. Honestly I don't see this team headed anywhere for the next few years because of FO incompetence.

I guess I’m in the minority in thinking Jrich was fool’s gold. I liked him because he was a Celtic but I’m glad we sold high on him and landed a superior player in White.

If the C’s can close out the year strong enough to make that 1st rounder a poor one, I’d be pretty happy

White can guard 1 through 3, so our wing depth didn't change all that much outside of Romeo, I think.  White has a 6'8" wingspan, which is good.  Not as good as Richardson's 6'10", but DW is a better overall defender.  He's also superior offensively.

I think it is fair to acknowledge that by giving up Richardson, we did give up a very good bench wing.  Richardson is a true natural wing.  White may be a better overall player (I don't know but am happy to assume that for now) but he is more of a combo guard.  He is a bit undersized to be a true natural wing.  He can't give us some of the things Richardson could.  But maybe that is fine.  Nesmith is a natural wing and will likely play more.  GWill is not a natural wing but may get some time there.

Going forward, I do not expect our back up wing position (manned collectively by White, Nesmith, and GWill) to be as good as it would be if we still had Richardson.  We traded some of our wing depth to get a little better/deeper at combo guard and at PF/C.  We'll see how it works out.

I feel like we are better positioned for the future with White but we may not be any better this season as a result of these trades.  Theis has always been sneaky good, doing things that don't show up in the box score and helping others play better, but he isn't going to move the needle all that much.  But he is a help, an upgrade.  I feel White can more than make up for the loss of Schroder and even Pritchard can help with that.  But I do think we are going to feel the loss of Richardson.

I agree we’re a little thin on the wing after losing Richardson and Langford. That said, with White in tow, perhaps Smart can pick up some of those wing minutes. I also hope Nesmith gets a lot more minutes now (even if it’s painful sometimes…) and finds a little better flow over the rest of the season.

I think Grant can play some Wk g minutes as well.

Lastly, it’s my hope that we pick up a half decent wing through the buy out market or that Valentine up in Maine has something to offer

You can't just say stuff that's not true.

Theis's numbers aren't going down
The rest of the league was interested in him, as he received a sizeable relatively long-term contract from another team.
Theis doesn't make constant defensive mistakes. If anything, he is one of the more consistent (albeit unspectacular) defensive players in the league.

On top of that, Josh Richardson was traded for a player that is only 3cm shorter with similar wingspan and length. Derrick White is as much of wing depth as Josh Richardson.

This team's biggest need was a good sized playmaker, and Derrick White is almost the perfect prototype.  Who cares whether he fits definition of a "wing".  His ability to penetrate, distribute, and back door cut are superior to J Rich and frankly anyone else on this current roster.  He fills a big hole for us.
