JB and JT together feel like a special pairing; like McGrady and Vince.

I have tuned out the JTJB minority. They sound to me like “we should trade JB because he’s… 25; a track record of steady improvement and still hasn’t reached his pique; scores well at all 3 levels and is already a top 20 scorer; guards multiple positions on the perimeter and interior at an above average level; about $12-15M underpaid for the next 3-4 years; a part of the NBAPA hierarchy and is interested in leadership.”

The writing has been on the wall since they lead the team in the 2018 ECF playoffs, eliminating Giannis, Embiid-Simmons, and going toe to toe in a 7 game series against Lebron that this young core is special. Management has tuned out since then and are going to continue to build around the JT and JB core for the foreseeable future. Few things in life improve as linear as Jaylen’s scoring average and this team is no different.

I would like to see a coach who can implement a system for the two of them that is more than "take turns".  We have two excellent talents, but I think that we all recognize that we're not getting the most out of them.

In an ideal world, one of those guys would be an elite passer, like Larry or Lebron.  That's not going to be the case here, so it's going to have to be the system and teammates that maximize those two.  I do know that the best JB and JT seemed to "click" was when Hayward was on the team.  I just don't think there are a lot of guys out there like Gordon, who can play just about every aspect of the game at a B+ level.

What we need is a guy like Mike Conley, I think.  But, like with Gordon, there just aren't a lot of Conleys floating around.

The Celtics REALLY should have traded up to get Haliburton in the '20 draft. Unfortunately, he's now to most untouchable guy on the Kings.

Brogdon would also be interesting (if costly), but as documented he can't be traded this season.

Whenever I think about this, I keep coming back to FVV.

I agree! Gordon wanted more scoring responsibility and got it. He’s having back and hamstring issues, which is not a good sign for his career moving forward.

The irony about the coaching search was that two Conley-like players were in the running: Billups and Cassell. I continue promoting Al as that on the floor; if his defensive responsibilities are lessened to the point he’s not a worn down spot up shooter, he can be that presence.

Smart’s been prone to having lapses in judgment, but this season has me looking at him as if he can become that sooner rather than never. In the meantime, using Rob early and Al late is the formula that I think will work best.

It really is amazing that with all the great players that have played here, that Brown's was only the 11th regular season game in which a Celtic scored 50 or more points in a game.  Also amazing that in the high scoring 60's, only Sam Jones did it.  Bird with 4 and Tatum with 2 are the only players to have done it at least twice and Tatum did it in the same month last April.

It has been done 6 times in the playoffs.  Hondo, IT4, Jones & Ray, Cousy & Tatum.  Bird never did it.  Amazing.

So if you count the playoffs you have these Celtic teammates

Jones/Cousy/Hondo (though they never had 50 on the same team given the timing of it and when they retired)
Bird/McHale
Allen/Pierce
IT4/Brown (technically Tatum was also a teammate of IT4 for like 2 months but they never played together - of course they weren't teammates when they both hit the mark)
Tatum/Brown
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip
