Apparently, Partizan Belgrade has ''made an offer for Israeli rising star Yam Madar''. They'll play in the EuroCup next season (not as glamorous as the EuroLeague), but they just signed Jeljko Obradovic as their head coach who's a living legend in european basketball. Let's say he's like Phil Jackson or Gregg Popovich, only way younger (he's 61).
You mean he is only good when he has the league's best player like Pop or Jackson?
Not really. He won his first EuroLeague with Partizan Belgrade in 1992, in the middle of the Yugoslav Wars. The team was playing all of its home games away from Yugoslavia because of the war. Nobody expected them to make a deep run in the competition, much less win the trophy. He won his second EuroLeague with Joventut Badalona, a relatively unknown spanish team. Again, nobody expected them to win. He won his 5th EuroLeague against Virtus Bologna, one of the most talented teams in EuroLeague history. Virtus had numerous superstars at the time, including Manu Ginobili in his last season in Europe before joining the Spurs. Not to mention, the game was played in Bologna (Virtus' home city). All in all, Obradovic has won a record 9 EuroLeague titles as well as 2 Saporta Cups (sort of like the modern-day EuroCup) and numerous titles at national level in Yugoslavia, Spain, Greece and Turkey. No other head coach has ever won more than 4 EuroLeague titles. He's a living legend in european basketball for a reason.
