Should Celtics trade Tristan Thompson close season

I would keep TT. It’s nice to have a bunch of bigs who bring diff things when they’re on the floor.

I think I’m pretty much ready to move on from Smart though. He’ll fetch us a more valuable player and I think it’s time for JB and JT to have bigger voices on this team. Also, I’ve given up on CBS reining Smart in. He’s closer to Bledsoe than he is Draymond.

What is your basis for this evaluation? 

He's averaging 8 points and 8 rebounds in only 22 minutes which is very respectable.  He's shooting 53% from the field, so he's been pretty efficient.  He's got a free throw rate of 36% which is one of the best on the team - meaning he's one of the few guys on the roster actually putting some pressure on opposing interior defences. 

I get that he's not a star, but that's not what Danny signed him to be.  He signed him to come in and do what he does - which is play hard, rebound, and get garbage points around the basket.  He's done that well.  He's one of the few guys on this team who seems to truly know and play within his role, and I respect that.

It's very strange. He's a role player and got paid like a role player. Why are people surprised when he produces like one?

Danny had to trade Theis and Teague so we could get more of Pritchard and TIMELORD. Pritchard is shooting 40% from 3 but only four 3 point shots last night of which he made 3. Smart took 6 and made 0.

Thompson is trash. Cool, we went out and got ourselves another Perkins.

There is also one pretty key difference between Perk and TT.  Perk had some of the WORST hands ive ever seen from an NBA player.  For a guy who rarely ever touched the ball, he averaged 2.6 Turnovers / 36 (24.4% TO rate) for much of his career vs Thompson who averaged 1.5 Turnovers /36 (11.8% TO rate).

Thompson has also avareged almost 50% more offenisve production (12.7 Points / 36 for TT vs  8.8 Points / 36 for Perk).

Scoring about 50% more points (awith similar efficiency) and commiting about 50% as many turnovers is a pretty big deal...and TT is also a better rebounder.

Oh and one other small thing.  The Celtics own a title and made two NBA finals with Perk as the starting center and many believe the Celtics would have one their second title if not for the fact that Perk was injured late in that series (Boston were well ahead in the series before Perk went down). 

So paying $9M a year in this cap environment for a better version of a guy we won a title with...is that really so horrible?

I could not agree more. 

I liked Smart a lot last season, throught he played much smarter and took far less idiotic shots...until late in the playoffs when he started going back to his old ways.

Now seeing how he's playing this season, he's wearing out his  welcome with me very rapidly.  I'm LONG past the point where I feel his liabilities well exceed the benefits of having him around.

4 three point attempts per game isn't low lol, it's Smart who needs to curtail his three point attempts since his shot has completely regressed.
