We should not be involved in this draft. Unfortunately every team in this league knows that.

So unless a team falls in love with a player I don't see these picks being trade chips.

We're going to actually draft players this year..... Yay more semi's and grant williams.... That's not a good thing people.
Man, I wished the Heat followed this advice, because we'd probably be in the finals instead of them.

Ahh I get it...yeah.

How often do you see what the heat did? They were the exception to the rule.

While I realize the celtics are a team that has to build through the draft because boston isn't LA. Now is not the time to see if rj hunter is going to pan out. We need established players that are great at one thing not these jack of all trades guys that can do a lot of things but aren't great at anything. It's how roles are defined.
The Spurs and Warriors in the last decade?

Really going to include the spurs? They've done nothing since Tim duncan left.

The warriors maybe but they still had a mix of vets along the way...he'll,  Igudala won finals mvp.

Again these are all exceptions to the rule.
The 2017 Spurs squad that was a Kawhi Leonard injury away from beating one of the best teams of all time is nothing? Also Tim Duncan was drafted by the Spurs

A finals MVP that he did not deserve at all, also he was an FA acquisition that didn't cost the Warriors anything besides cap space. Iguodala was a complementary player to Curry/Klay/Draymond anyways (they are homegrown talents btw ;)).

If we are getting a curry, klay or green then by all means they should participate in this draft.

The point about Igudala that you didn't get was exactly what you pointed out yourself.

Is the point about mid to late 1st round picks or drafting in general.  Because the Warriors weren't built on mid to late 1st round picks at all.    Curry and Barnes were top 10 picks, Klay was 11, and Dray was a 2nd rounder.  They also had a former 1st overall pick in Bogut and Iggy was also a top 10 pick.  Obviously they swapped out Barnes (and others) for Durant, who was also the #2 pick.

The Heat are built mostly on mid to late 1st round picks.  That is incredibly rare historically.  Butler was 30, Bam was 14, Herro and KO were 13, Dragic and Crowder were 2nd rounders, and Nunn and Robinson weren't even drafted.  Seriously Iggy was the only top 10 pick to play a playoff game for the Heat this year. Leonard played in 3 games and he was the 11th pick as the next highest drafted guy.  That is something you just don't see and if they by chance land Giannis, well then they would still be built on mid to late 1st rounders since Giannis also fits that bill.

Most of the great teams are built on the backs of top 10 picks.  They aren't always drafted by the team, but they are generally present throughout the roster because by and large the best players are in fact top 10 picks and the best players are the ones that win the most.  The Heat, Bucks, and Clippers really are very rare historically as having very few players on their teams that are drafted in the top 10 (of course the Clippers and Bucks both lost in the 2nd round, so who knows how good they actually are).

Even a team like the Spurs that had a lot of talent from outside the top 10, still had that #1 pick as the foundational piece.  Without Duncan's broad shoulders to stand on, the Spurs don't win a single title.
2023 Historical Draft - Brooklyn Nets - 9th pick

Bigs - Pau, Amar'e, Issel, McGinnis, Roundfield
Wings - Dantley, Bowen, J. Jackson
Guards - Cheeks, Petrovic, Buse, Rip

Dude you're making my points for me. You even used the word "rare".

You're arguing with me but saying the same thing.

ESPN’s Jonathan Givony says the first of Boston’s three picks is being heavily discussed

“Picks belonging to the Sacramento Kings (No. 12), Boston Celtics (No. 14), Wolves (No. 17), Dallas Mavericks (No. 18), Brooklyn Nets (No. 19) and Miami Heat (No. 20) are the most prevalent in trade conversations lately, per sources,”

The Celtics are going to have to unload Hayward's contract if they are going to move any needles.
