Kawhi is fundamentally solid.

Giannis needs a perimeter game and a 3-point shot.

Freak is 3.5 years younger. I'd take him for that reason, but IMO, right now, they're undeniably the 2 best players in the league.

The only real concern about Kawhi is he misses an awful lot of games. The only drawback with Freak is he's not led a team to a title, Kawhi has.

The tradeoff with Kawhi resting is that he can play nearly 40MPG over the Playoffs, I guess

Kawhi probably has three rings if he was not injured in the conference finals against GSW.

Giannis so far in his career does not have a reliable three point shot, and he only has one motor speed. Kawhi has different gears.

I am not sure if we have had this thread, but who would you pick first. People Giannis gets a lot of press, but Kawhi Leonard is really good people.

I am not sure that I do not pick him over Giannis in a two team draft.

Kawhi for sure. Closest thing to Jordan we have in today's NBA in my (very) humble opinion. Just so calm and patient offensively and defensively.
Any odd typos are because I suck at typing on an iPhone :D

Imo he's more Dirk/Gervin/King than Jordan/Kobe/Bron/Wade. His passing and creation is relatively weak compared to MJ's group. Not saying that Kawhi's bad, but he isn't that type of player imo.

I don't see Dirk in Kawhi at all to be honest . Unless you mean he was basically a solo act like Kawhi was last year.

I make the comparison with Jordan not just from an aesthetic standpoint, but in terms of his vision, patience and determination and the fact that he can influence a game offensively and defensively. He can dictate the pace of the game. I wasn't yet in my teens when Jordan came on the scene in 84 but nobody in the NBA today has reminded me of peak Jordan dictating a game more than Kawhi did during the playoffs last year. Kobe and D-Wade came close particularly from an offensive standpoint, but they had pretty dominant big men partners when they won their championships. I see LeBum as a very different type of player, he's much more of a facilitator than Kawhi is.

Though Kawhi is getting better at that, he's not in their class as a facilitator yet. Also I'm not saying he's as good as MJ, he's got a way to go to get to that level. I'm saying he reminds me of him when I see him play. But beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Yeah, the way he scores gives me Jordan vibes. Patient, powerful athleticism, mid-range game, sort of unstoppable. Better three point shooter, worse athlete. Both beasts on defence too, but Kawhi is more suited to wings, and Jordan more suited to guards.

His passing isn't great but it looks funny when you stick him in a group of physically unimposing primarily offensive players.  Kawhi is a physical beast who dominates on both sides of the ball- much more like your second group.

These guys are clearly a notch above Embiid and I suspect LeBron at this point.

I think Kawhi is the better player.  He reminds me of Jordan too because the way he asserts his will over a game like MJ did.

Regarding what I said about Kawhi, I was talking about his offensive profile instead of his game aesthetically. He's a volume scorer who ups his volume and efficiency in the playoffs (or maintains both of them) with a resilient offensive arsenal, but doesn't have the vision to consistently punish double teams by making high leverage passes to exploit gaps in the defense whenever they gang up on him. This combination of characteristics also leads to incredible ball security which pumps down his TO%. This profile is much more similar to Dirk/King/Gervin/Miller-offensive anchors who can ramp up their scoring with no loss in efficiency, but do not possess the passing or creation skills to supercharge the talent around them (they can make their teammates better, but it pales in comparison to the best perimeter offensive engines of all time like MJ/Bron/Wade/Kobe, who all have done some serious heavy lifting with volume scoring and playmaking). There's value in having such a resilient offensive anchor who can raise the offensive floor of a team in the playoffs, but the lack of quality passing in such players separates them from the very best offensive peaks of all time imo.

Giannis is probably the most unstoppable offensive force despite his limited outside game.  Kawi is top 10 on offense, top 5 on defense, and above average in playmaking/support/leadership/intangibles.  Best player is undoubtedly  the best PLAYER.

He's actually below average at playmaking compared to his peers, his passing and vision is problematic.
