The Mavs logic is that Smith and Doncic arent a good fit. I was really high on Smith leading up to the 2017 draft, and still am. If you can look past the injuries, the potential is certainly there. Is he worth Rozier and a first?

So the logic here is that Luke and Rozier can play together too?

NVM that they can get more for Dennis.

I doubt Dallas would be interested. Terry is 3 1/2 years older, currently a worse player than Smith and also projects to be a worse player than DSJ. It would have to be one of our better first round picks for Dallas to do that, and that makes the move bad for us, as DSJ would probably never start (assuming Kyrie resigns).
'23 Historical Draft: Orlando Magic.

PG: Terry Porter (90-91) / Steve Francis (00-01)
SG: Joe Dumars (92-93) / Jeff Hornacek (91-92) / Jerry Stackhouse (00-01)
SF: Brandon Roy (08-09) / Walter Davis (78-79)
PF: Terry Cummings (84-85) / Paul Millsap (15-16)
C: Chris Webber (00-01) / Ralph Sampson (83-84) / Andrew Bogut (09-10)

If you take away the sexy leaping ability, is Dennis Smith Jr really that good?  I'm not sure.  He doesn't shoot well and is always hurt.  If we are competing for a title for the foreseeable future, I'd rather have a more finished product than Smith.  I'd love to get a Barea or Van Vleet kind of guy.

I hope I’m wrong, but I think Roziers a goner after this year, And this may be the weakest draft for point guards in over a decade. A trade may be our best bet to get a backup for Kyrie, so I wouldn’t doubt that Smith is on Danny’s radar.

I think he’s good. Granted I haven’t watched much of him in the NBA, but watched a good amount of NC State game in 2016-17, where he was far and away the most impressive/elite guy on the court, including a win over Tatums Duke where he went nuts for 32. I really wouldn’t have batted an eye if a team took Smith in the Top 5 last year, I think he’s that good.

Probably not the right fit for this team but I could see DSJ finding his way as a great piece somewhere but I don't see how he fits into this rotation. Orlando is the most obvious destination but I wouldn't be surprised at all if some team that no one is thinking of took a chance on him.

He is easily in the mold of an Eric Bledsoe type, you don't have to squint too hard to imagine 16-4-3 on decent shooting splits. Maybe if the Blazers ever cash in on Damian Lillard with LA, DSJ could be a part of the deal as a consolation prize. Maybe Minny convinces themselves they need another young athlete to run with Towns and Wiggins. Could DSJ play for Pop in SA?

Whatever the deal, I think DSJ could be an interesting piece this trade deadline.

I’d kill for JJ Barea. His production per minute is crazy. Just murders opposition second units, unlike our garbage backup PG

Yeah the celts definitely need another guy who is a few years away from being good.

1. Dallas is being really smart about this.  Doncic is a Point Forward, and so the team is more efficient with Doncic making decisions....ala Larry Bird back in the day

2. I can only see this working for the Cs if Smith is brought to replace Rozzier,  And so the question is; do we think Smith would be happy with 2nd unit minutes?  or are we robbing Peter to pay Paul?- as they say...

Deal Brown for him and a first. I mean if Brown can't make it back into the starting lineup might as well get insurance for the Rozier and Irving situation.

Like Rozier, I don't think Smith is really suited to be a back-up PG and as such I wouldn't want him in that role.
