No its not

Thats why they call him 10 year vet, mr polish

Watch his college games...we havent seen half the stuff he is capable of doing

Melo lazy or not has turned into a one dimension player, basically stare downs, stutter, then shoot mid range over his man.  No drives to the basket. No up and unders. No turn around J. Cant shoot the 3.

So what moves does he have?  Dancing on the spot/staring down his man, running down the clock... then shooting mid range jump shots doesnt count

Carmelo is 33 years old, he's not in his prime. Melo in his prime had more "moves" offensively than Tatum does at 19, though. There were some years where he was arguably the most dynamic scorer in the league. Other flaws, yes, but the guy could put on a clinic offensively that Tatum can't do yet.

The fact that Tatum @19 > Melo @33 is a reasonable claim is great, though.

I curse every time Tatum misses a FT because I desperately want him to become the first member of the 50-50-90 club (I think he'd be the first).  His FT% is what's in the way.
Steve Kerr in '96 shot 50/51/93. He averaged 8.4 ppg. Jason Kapono and Kyle Korver came very close but Kerr is the only one I could find that actually did it.

There's only been 6 guys in NBA history who shot over .500 on three's for a season so I doubt this is going to hold. But yeah, that would be awesome.
1957, 1959, 1960, 1961, 1962, 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1974, 1976, 1981, 1984, 1986, 2008, 2024

is it not at least comforting that we’re having this discussion about whether he will join this record breaking club? And we were paid a lottery pick to take this guy? Lol

I agree though it’s early. Schroeder is shooting like 67% from 3 and Aaron Gordon something like that or 70%

Yes. I want him taking at least 10-12 shots a night.

Alright, first 50-50-90 double digit scorer it is! TP for the research

Nash in 07-08 was 50-47-90 at 16.9 points per game.
Steph has been 50-45-90 at a ridiculous 30 ppg.

pretty great shooting seasons.

He is skillled

More than Melo and PG13... In terms of variety of moves
no ****ing chance

Why didnt you watch last nights game?

he gave that away didn't he?? LOL
Don't know what either of you are talking about.

If you think Melo is less skilled than tatum in terms of variety of moves, then you are a lost cause. Consumed by green goggles.

He used to be. Melo has gotten old. He has exactly 1 move now. Get the ball, Let 10 seconds go off the clock while he jab steps and pretends he can still drive to the hoop and take a jump shot sans dribble. Also Tatum is already a better defender than Melo has ever been.

Exactly

Melo is also in terrible shape(and has been for multiple years)...

One of the worst contracts ever given out to a NBA player along with glassman Chandler Parsons and no show after signature Mark Blount
I think it is ambitious to claim Tatum is already better than Melo.

That said, if you base it on defense, willingness to play within a system fitness etc. I could see the argument.

You can say Melo isnt good any more. you can say hes a team killer or a ball movement killer or that he is inefficient. You can say hes not explosive any more or that he doesnt defend. However, you absolutely cannot argue that he doesnt have a large variety of moves.

He might have the largest repertoire of moves in the entire league scoring out of the high post.

The idea that a 19 year old(as talented as Tatum is) already has a larger variety of moves scoring the ball is so absurd.

This blog sometimes...

If we are basing it on this season only (because of course this also goes for the future), I think I would still prefer Tatum over Carmelo.

Don't get me wrong, Carmelo is a professional scorer, but Tatum is an open book learning from one of the best minds in basketball in Stevens. His talent, readiness, athleticism, and willingness to do whatever is asked of him in the offense (not forcing shots/not ball-dominant) makes this a pretty clear decision in my mind.
I disagree, but the question isnt Melo vs. Tatum who would you rather have?

its melo vs. Tatum who has "a larger variety of moves" that answer is Melo all day every day.
