I think this is cool. Yeah its a promotion for 2k but it shows that we have a big time star on our hands, at least in terms of media size.

This is the kind of thing IT wishes for and I hope he eventually gets. Boston is going to get more attention this year and that's a good thing. As unjust as it is we will have a better chance of things 'swinging' our way now that we have a legitimate star on our team.
I don't really care how popular he is.  I'd rather have him be hungry and not content that he's such a celebrity.

You don't have to shout it from the rooftops if you're a competitor. Avery Bradley should have taught every Celtics fan that.

Kyrie's second message to Boston fans; "guys, the earth is flat"
So far, this is really the only thing I don't like about Kyrie.  Guess nobody's perfect.   ;D  ;D

He has admitted he was just trolling about the earth being flat.

Pretty sure it Wasn't an ad guys. Jesus what cynicism.

This 1000x - Ignorance is blatant here sometime...

Lol. The cover athlete for NBA2K18 posts a video that prominently displays game footage and the company logo, he tags the company repeatedly in his post, and you're calling me blatantly ignorant?

Get excited for the commercial if you'd like, but it's a pretty obvious sales pitch that nobody is particularly subtle about. It's not a "message to the fans", other than "buy my sponsor's game". It's a bit tacky, but I guess marketing his personal brand was one of the reasons Kyrie wanted a trade, so good on him.

An ad from one of his sponsors. Cool.
lol.

I don't think he is sponsored by 2k, he would have to publicly disclose it.

You think they use his image on their cover for free?

That cover is outdated.

How's it tacky come on lol he's the cover guy it was a huge announcement today for the game, they sent him a clip decked out in Celtic gear and he posts about it with a little shout to Celtic fans, nothing tacky about that

It's tacky because his introduction to the fans is an advertisement. Something a bit more heartfelt would have been better. It's not like he doesn't have access to media.

It would be like if Hayward announced his decision not via the Player's Tribune, but through a Gatorade ad.

Man they need to change that cover. That's beyond annoying now. Haven't bough 2K in a few years. Going to jump back on the train this season though.

Same. Just like with Madden an Brady. Love it
The Nets will finish with the worst record and the Celtics will end up with the 4th pick.

Let's be clear about something here, this idea that the Kyrie video is tacky is just your opinion.

Clearly, though, a great many people disagree with you.

There is no right or wrong here, just opinions. Personally, I couldn't care less about the medium Kyrie chose to send Boston fans his first "message". I'm more interested in what he does on the court.

Seeing this Roy H. Vs Celticsblog debacle here is making one thing clear.

A MAJORITY of this fanbase is split about this trade and have STRONG feelings on the side they are on (love it or hate it). Not many in between.

(Note: I said "majority", not every single Celticsblogger here)

My thoughts on this? I'm honestly pretty happy Irving acknowledged the fanbase and organization here, and don't think he did it with solely the intent to promote something. And I mean he's on the cover of the game so...

Did somebody say this was something other than an opinion, just like close to 100% of the discussion on here?  Your "appeal to authority" citing a half-dozen message board posters cracked me up, though, so kudos for that.

Also note that almost simultaneously 2K released on social media an updated cover with Irving in a Celtics uniform.
