Am I the only one that's a little concerned by his comment about having to figure stuff out on his own last year? I'm not saying anyone needed to baby him, but Crowder and Gerald Green are both vets of a similar size to Brown, and I'm sure they could have helped him a lot. Why didn't they do more? If it was a matter of them not wanting to train their replacement, I can understand that, and maybe it's as simple as that. Regardless, very glad to hear that Jaylen is taking Tatum under his wing.

I dont think it had anything to do with an "unwillingness" to help Jaylen. There's a difference between someone (like Crowder or Green) knowing more about being an NBA player and them being able to relate it to him. Crowder came in as a 2nd rounder, not a top 3 pick, and was less NBA ready than Jaylen. There's not a whole lot to relate to him. Green is a bit different, but it's been such a long time since he was a rookie, and the Celtics now are so different than when he was a rookie, that I can see how he could have trouble relating everything to Brown.

Marcus is probably the only player that could really relate to Brown's journey as a rookie (both recent high draft picks), but even then I don't know how similar they are. Learning to become a point guard and a small forward are just way different.

I was thinking about it more along the lines of a "we play similar positions, so here are some tricks of the trade that I've picked up over the years" type of thing rather than a "here's how to adjust to life on and off the court in the NBA" type of thing. Crowder's path to this point in his career couldn't be much more different than Brown's, but Crowder absolutely could teach Brown plenty about playing individual and team defense at a high level in the NBA, and also about working to improve his outside shot. And while Green was just a role player this past year, I'm sure he has plenty of basketball wisdom that he could pass along to Brown. Not a major issue, but still something that caught my eye.

That still doesn't mean he can effectively relate it to Jaylen.  When trying to teach someone something new/give them tips, most people will focus on what they struggled with.  But if Jaylen is struggling with things that Crowder picked up immediately, or Brown just gets the stuff that Crowder took a while to learn/figure out, there's gonna be a gap there. Yes, Crowder knows a lot about NBA defense, but how much of that is innate vs. something he learned in the NBA (and knows he learned, not something that he just picked up without really focusing on it)? There's a good chance that, although Jae knows more about this stuff and has plenty to teach Jaylen, that he just couldn't really teach it effectively.

And that seems WAY more likely to me than "Jae is scared that Jaylen's gonna take his job and is jealous of him!"

Fair. But that's how journalism works now, anyway, right? Start with a hook (Jaylen's party) and then just apply it to whatever happens later and pretend like it was destined to be all along, be it a future start of this draft class coming to Boston or Jaylen becoming PU President.
