Good for them. It's certainly better than the alternative.

Yeah, if the players are making this much, just think how much the owners are making. It's a lot, more than half now, all told.

I read somewhere they don't make as much as many think

maybe 10-20 million a year minus expenses etc

And some people on here think IT isn't worth 30M/Year  ::)

31 year old Lowry got 3/100.

Jrue Holiday got 5/126 (could be 150 with incentives)

Otto Porter about to get 4/106.

And you really think IT isn't going to get something like 4/120 or higher??

I am in favor of players getting all the money they can.  The problem is how it's making it harder than ever to build a team.  Look at the Wizards.  They're going to have to give Otto Porter $25 mil a year just to tread water.  ESPN just put up a graphic that the Warriors will pay $40 mil in luxury tax next year, $90 mil the year after that and almost $200 mil the year after that.

You can sort of wrap your head around giving Lowry this top money as a perennial all star. If you spend 34 million on jj reddick and Amir Johnson it is hard to stomach
they got 1 year contracts. If it didn't go to them it would have just gone to the current players

You were advocating iggy for 3 years for 60 or them getting Lowry or holiday. Those guys all offer more than 33 year old reddick, who is a great shooter but does little else. Amir Johnson may not belong in NBA

I mean, Curry is getting 40 FORTY MILLION PER SEASON

LOWRY OVER 33 PER YEAR

JJ 23 million?!

Imagine what's going through the minds of guys like Pierce, KG, Vince Carter

Lol what a time to be in your prime and a decent player. Otto Porter is now a max guy?

That's why Danny is hording those low cost draft picks!

Yes, the value of rookie scale contracts should be appealing.

It's insane and not sustainable.

No it isn't. But at the same time I thought there would be some damage control this summer by for example Portland to avoid paying the luxury tax for a borderline playoff team. Apparently owners are prepared to pay big tax bills for non-contenders. I think this is different than in the past.

But teams will lose precious cap space and eventually free agents who expect a big pay day will actually be massively disappointed by the dried out market. In 2019 I expect you can get high quality players for bottom prizes. I fear that Philadelphia with these short term contract will be in a great spot to profit from that.

I can see a correction taking place in the near future. The "correction" will come at the expense of team ownership.

Franchises will not be gaining value at the rate they currently have been. Some of the weaker franchises will show signs of being in trouble, and be scooped up by new ownership groups lead by former players...just like it was planned by the players union during the last players strike.

Imagine if the cba was like before, where teams could pay whatever they wanted with no penalties. Lebron would be getting like 100 million a year.
That would be better for the NBA in terms of parity

Yea the bubble will burst! Any idea what they are projecting for the cap next year?

Did you know that the players are entitled to at least 49% of league revenues through their salaries?  Did you also know that the cap was inflated this year because last year, despite all the money spent in free agency, players were short their share of at least 49%?  The bubble won't burst until at least the next TV deal, which no contract signed this year will outlast.

I do not need to explain. All you have to do is think.

They are getting paid like this because the sport continues to grow, revenue, all that.

They are making millions playing basketball.

We are essentially the ones who are paying them.

You as well as I know that this topic cannot be discussed simply and def not on a basketball board.
