There was a play the other night where a Washington player hit a 3 pointer, but the shot was negated because of a foul near the basket. (I think the foul went against Marcus(?).) The C's caught a break because the replay showed that the foul occurred before the player shot the ball. All they did was give Washington the ball out of bounds instead of giving them the basket plus a foul shot.
To me, it looked like someone barged into the Celtic player and not the other way around. Therefore, the foul should have gone against Washington.
I may be mistaken about whether it was the right call or not, but it got me thinking that oftentimes, when the NBA refs look at replays, you can plainly see they made the wrong call and that the other team caused the infraction. Yet, they never change fouls to the other team. They simply identify the player they feel made the foul or infraction and let it be.
Is there an NBA rule that stipulates that replays can't overturn a foul call? If so, then I understand why the refs don't do it. On the other hand, if that's the case, then the rule should be changed. Anyone agree, or disagree?
