I'm encouraged by his performance. He looks confident, his release is quick, and he's shooting an excellent 44% from the corners. However, Marcus Smart shot 33.5% from three on 272 attempts in his rookie year, so I wouldn't get too carried away yet.

And Reggie Miller shot 35.5% his rookie year, so what's your point?

I believe you're helping to make my point that one season can be misleading, especially for a rookie.
Isaiah, you were lightning in a bottle.

Has anybody here said it's a sure thing becomes great? All the OP is saying is that there are some good signs.

I'd rather see him shoot 34% than 20% his rookie year. Agree?

jaylen has certainly shown he has good form`, a nice release
-the fact he is so closely monitored by brad and even smart getting on him will pay huge benefits as he learns to play celtics basketball and make the right plays
taking whats given vs forcing things is the proper use of this valuable asset
how many rookies are going to be in playoffs and could conceivably start, if we have injuries and right match up
he will have all summer to work on his shot and creating

I would bet my lunch that Marcus will get there again.

Why? He's had 3 full seasons and his shooting hasn't improved even slightly. He's shooting WORSE on 2pt shots than he did as a rookie.

I've noticed in games he typically makes his first shot, often his second, then misses 3rd, etc. Seems most of his first 3 attempts are from the corner where he is most accurate.

Sometimes feel the reigns have been put on him by Brad, both in terms of playing time and play calling. Hoping he loosens them up next season; for example giving him more opportunities to create his own scoring, particularly on drives where he can draw fouls. He will need to keep improving his foul shooting. Could be the difference between being a 15 ppg vs 20 ppg scorer eventually.

He's capable of much more than 3 point shots and alley oop dunks.
Definitely. I think Brad knows what Jaylen is capable of but also knows that Jaylen needs to learn the basics of NBA basketball first so he's putting him in the corner and forcing him to learn how to move off the ball. And it's working. He's great at cutting to the basket off ball and as this thread's title suggests, he's made himself into a reliable catch-and-shoot option.

I'm assuming next season Brad will let him be a little more assertive. Can't wait.

Brandon ingram shooting 29% from 3, 40% FG, 63% ft. So far looking good in comparisons. Ingram plays 11 more minutes per game than brown yet only scores 3 more ppg

Jaylen is definitely ahead of schedule as a shooter from what I expected him to be able to do this season.

Same with his team defense.

He needs to make more of an impact in the hustle stats -- boards, steals, blocks -- and he will need to work a lot on his handle and his passing.

But the foundation for him to become a really nice wing in the mold of Iguodala is there.  Perhaps a poor man's Kawhi.
