If true, 8 teams passed? That's not a good sign at all. I can't believe he was unimpressive enough for 8 teams to say. "I'll pass big fella."
There were 3 reports. The first was he had a tryout with the Celtics. Then there was a report he worked out for 6 teams, three of which were almost guaranteed playoff teams and that his agent felt he would get a contract from one of those teams. He didn't. Then there was a report he tried out for Cleveland. Obviously Cleveland went in another direction. 8 teams. No interest.

There was also a report that he tried out for the Lakers, right?

Heh, posted in the other thread but Keith Smith seems to have refuted this.

Despite the new pic floating around of Larry Sanders in a BOS practice jersey, no indications he had a second workout with Celtics recently.

I'm a KO supporter but unfortunately for him he has done nothing this year to prove is that the spot is his. Is Larry Sanders capable of becoming our 3rd to 4th big? Personally I don't see why not.

Ha TP.

By the way, how did this Keith Smith guy blow up all of a sudden? Wasn't he just a barely reliable Reddit guy at one point not too long ago? Isn't this the infamous "Smitty" character? It seems like since a bit before the trade deadline several sports/NBA platforms have picked him up and have been giving him airtime.

He's originally a RealGM guy I believe.  He made up a rumor over the summer about Blake Griffin (and I mean that seriously -- he made it up).  Then Celticsblog hired him as a front page writer, so he gets retweeted by them a lot, and voila! The stamp of officialness!

I saw his tweet through bleacherreport's NBA page didn't know that was the same guy as the Blake Griffin Smitty lol.

I usually use Bleacher Report to outsource my deep Twitter mining.

Pretty sure he signed up for scouting school and was giving realgmers updates at summer league this year from stuff he saw/heard etc...

Right, but he either was played for a fool by people he talked to, jumped to real aggressive conclusions, or made things up.  The Blake thing was nonsense from the beginning, and it was obvious nonsense.  The entire thing was premised on the fact Ainge was going to San Diego (which, I guess was a scoop but felt a little bit like stalking).  The rumor said he was going to San Diego to negotiate an extension for Blake, when it was not remotely difficult to learn that Ainge has a daughter and grandchildren in San Diego, and was in fact seeing family on one of the few off weeks on a NBA GM's calendar.  But when Ainge tweeted from San Diego, it was taken as confirmation of the absurd Blake rumor, and then he just helped it snowball from there.  I wasn't completely sure about Smith prior to that, but when he shoveled coal onto the Blake fire he started, when there continued to be NOTHING there (and I assure you with every TP I've earned over the years that there was NOTHING to it -- I did my own sleuthing and I promised my source to say no more), I determined he either made things up or let people make things up for him and parroted them for retweets and follows.

The only rumor I've seen him get right was Larry Sanders' first visit -- and he didn't actually break that.  Someone here on Celticsblog saw it on Sanders Instagram, tweeted it at Smith, who then repackaged the info as his own "Breaking" scoop.

I'm glad he pays money to go to NBA Scout fantasy camp.  I'm frankly jealous as my wife won't let me sign up.  But beyond that?  No, he's a dude who's throws a lot darts at the wall that sometimes have enough of a modicum of truth to them for people to believe there's a dartboard he's aiming at.

Oh wow, I knew that you knew your s**t. Now I´m convinced that you know your s**t and some more. Danny needs to put you on the payroll.
yeah. salty be good, we all know that.

though judging from ms. salty's decision on not letting him go to a bb camp, she may be even better.  ;D
I believe Gandhi is the only person who knew about real democracy — not democracy as the right to go and buy what you want, but democracy as the responsibility to be accountable to everyone around you. Democracy begins with freedom from hunger, freedom from unemployment, freedom from fear, and freedom from hatred.

I missed that one. 9 teams then? Almost a third of the league said no

How many teams passed on Hassan Whiteside
Hassan Whiteside didnt quit basketball. He was a second round pick who got told he sucked, but didnt quit.

he got picked in the second round. Got sent to the Dleague, got waived and traded within the dleague. He then played for two different lebanese teams and two different chinese teams before battling his way back to sign for the Memphis Grizzlies who cut him nearly immediately banishing him back to the dleague before he finally was signed to the Miami heat.

Larry Sanders was a first round pick. He was a starter by his 3rd year in the league and quit basketball in the middle of his career because he like getting baked more than he liked the sport of basketball.

Comparing the two is disrespectful to Whiteside.

Plus even if the comp worked, Hassan Whiteside is the exception not the rule.

We gave the dude a workout and so did 8 other teams. He is likely just not good at basketball anymore.

If we arent at the workouts we havent got a [dang] clue. Trust in the wisdom of 1/3 of the NBA on this one. They have exponentially more info than we do.

it turns out that perspective want true. He quit the NBA because he had psychiatric issues that he needed to deal with away from the pressure and spotlight of the pro league, and he feels that he has dealt with that and has reached a good place now.
