Noel is a better fit but I really think that DA is making another run at Okafor as we speak. His contract is still under control and would allow the Cs to still be active in 2017 FA and his value is rumored to be down. The question is going to be how fare has his behavior and the leagues trend toward small ball pushing down his value?

Does Rozier + Hunter + Bentil/Mickey + 2018 Cs 1st + 2019 Grizz for Okafor get the deal done?

At first I would say NO but is was made clear that Okafor was not worth the #3 pick (Brown) this year and I would argue that Smart, AB,It and Crowder are all equal or greater value then the pick. KO, Yabu and Zizic all further crowd their 4/5 rotation. Maybe the rebutal to this trade is swapping out the Nets 2018 instead of the Cs and Grizz but I doubt DA touches the Nets picks this fare away from that draft.

If that trade was excepted the Cs would have an old school big man rotation that may actually be ahead of the current NBA curve. This deal would also make Horford the starting 4 where he wants to play and makes Amir the 4th big.

To answer the OP's question about who fits better next to Horford: Noel.

Defensively, Horford and Okafor would match up with the same kind of players. Okafor can't defend like Horford but he'd be best suited to cover the kind of players that Horford already is. Noel can guard quicker bigs that might give Horford trouble, so he's a better compliment in that way.

Offensively its kind of a wash because neither Noel nor Okafor can shoot. But Horford allowing Okafor space to operate in the post becomes less valuable if Okafor never learns how to pass. Horford's shooting would give Noel a clear lane in pick and rolls, though. So I could see them working well together offensively, even as limited as Noel is on that end.
Okafor tore us apart in his first NBA game ever....as a teenager and we were a playoff team the year before.

Terrific. That has nothing to do with the question.

Okafor passed really well at Duke. I dont see passing being an issue. I think thats one of the things its fair to blame on being on a terrible philly team.

Also, Okafor is far more likely than Noel to develop into a solid shooter.

Makes sense that Horford would want to play the 4, but I have not heard him actually say this. If he feels strongly about it, then you protect that $113M investment and give him the front court mate that works best for him. I think that would be Noel who would pick up the opponents best front court player, even though Okafor is probably the better player overall.

I can't remember if I've heard him say it, or just rumored to say it.. But During the press conference, DA said they needed to get a C, and Horford nodded his head yes. And it looked more of a "it would be very nice to play with a legit C" nod yes. So he's at least said it to DA or it would have been very awkard DA saying we need a C after singing Horford and him expecting to play center.
