  • Boston Celtics= Championships, nothing less.
What would it take to get Millsap from the Hawks and what would you be willing to give up?

I wouldn't mind going after Kevin Love but Millsap was pretty awesome this season. Not quite as good offensively as Love, but better defensively and seems like we might not have to give up as much for him as Love.

He's on $21 million for the next 2 seasons but year 2 is a player option.
So what would you be willing to give up?

I think it would take something like:

Bradley
#16
2019 Memphis pick

It's a lot but he's an immediate impact player especially if we got Butler or Durant (or both) here.
Is it slightly too much considering his player option?
"We are lucky we have a very patient GM that isn't willing to settle for being good and coming close. He wants to win a championship and we have the potential to get there still with our roster and assets."

quoting 'Greg B' on RealGM after 2017 trade deadline.
Read that last line again. One more time.

  • Sometimes there's no sane reason for optimism
I love Millsap as a player and would even say he is the player I most play like (I realize I absolutely suck in comparison, but you know what I mean), but he doesn't quite fit our timeframe in terms of age and I am also concerned about their only being one actual year left on his deal. His 'style' would be fantastic on this team, though - is there another player, who is younger, who has the potential to grow into a Millsap-type player?

I realize that you may not value the Memphis pick very much, but I think it has as much potential as the BKN picks the next two years.

I'd really like him, too, but due to his age and contract, I wouldn't give up anything substantial for him. If Horford leaves and they look for a salary dump, I'd love him, but I really wouldn't offer up anything more than like Amir, salary filler, and number 16 for him.

He actually would be a perfect 4 in between Durant and Horford. If we could convince those two to sign first, I'd consider overpaying a bit for Milsap, though not all that much.

He should have been a Celtic years ago.

I think he has 2-3 years of high level basketball. He is a two-way, versatile, high-IQ player who can get one-on-one baskets. If the Hawks enter rebuild mode, I'd trade for him for a reasonable price.

Too late for Millsap.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.
