Coming from Phil Jokerson nothing surprises me lol.
Of course he runs a joke of a franchise.

the biggest mistake he made was believing Anthony was serious about winning. And signing him to that ridiculous contract

Otherwise Jackson is a legend .  I would give him another year with the Knicks.

Okay, I have to break out the Dirty Harry here, just because it popped into my head when I read the bold part:

"Phil, you're a legend in your own mind."

I guess you won't believe it , until he gets inducted into the HOF

I just like to have fun with Phil. I think he probably was a very good coach, or at least a very good manager of intense personalities, but I also can't help thinking "right place, right time."  ;)

The first one is Abdul-Rauf leading the Nuggets over Jackson's Bulls

Second one is him dropping 51 on the Jazz

Side note , both these two were during one of the seasons that the league had shortened the 3 point line at the top of the arch to 22 feet.

Curry is to Abdul-Rauf

Porzingis is to Shawn Bradley

So, pretty close?

Porzingis is showing a promising future, but Bradley was actually a legitimate contributor during his career. During his NJ and early Dallas days, he scored in the low teens, blocked between 3-4 shots per game and pulled down a healthy 8 rebounds or so per game. I realize that Porzingis will likely surpass these numbers, but Bradley was actually pretty decent, despite looking totally awkward.

I loved Adul-Rauf back in the day, but Curry seems to be blowing past him. I think Jackson was more commenting on style and general ability (which Curry has him on, too) rather than impact.

Never seen anything like SCurry? Remind you of Chris Jackson/ Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, who had a short but brilliant run in NBA?

H can`t be serious......

Wishful thinking on the Zen guys part.

He's probably California dreamin' to go back to work for his Buss girl. If he does that, he'll have to endure Curry raining 3s on his team's head for years to come.

It's not a bad comparison, Rauf was kind of like an early version of Curry's game.  As long as Jackson's not implying they were equally good it's a reasonable line to draw.  And I'm glad to be reminded of it honestly, Rauf was sick at his peak.

Also another reminder that LSU had Shaq, Rauf (then Chris Jackson) and Stanley Roberts and still couldn't get out of the 2nd round  ;D

No way would S.Curry have been an MVP in the 90s. Curry benefits enormously (as do all guards) from the change in the hand-checking rules. Curry would have been man-handled in the 90s by bigger more physical guards / wings.

Still better than Abdul-Rauf but Abdul-Rauf would have been nasty in today's league. A 25-30ppg scorer. Celebrated as one of the best guards in the league. Perennial All-Star.

Hand-checking rules change = Overrated.

Curry's talent, skills, shot-making = Underrated.

The level of disparity, and the level of swing one is crediting to this rule is absolutely absurd.

The only times Abdul-Rauf ever shot above 35.5% from 3PT were the three years when the league move the 3PT line closer, when he topped out at 39.2%.  He hit the aforementioned 35.5% in 1993, and every single year other than that shot 33.0% or lower.

Again:  His career high from the 3PT line's current distance was 35.5%.  In 6 out of 7 other seasons at that distance, he shot 33.0% or worse.  He never averaged as many as 1.0 3PT makes per game at the current distance.  That's half as many makes per game as Curry's career low.  He never came close to Curry's career low of 42.4% 3PT%.

According to basketball-reference, Abdul-Rauf was never top-10 in 3PTs made or 3PT% in any season.  The only stats outside of FT% he was ever in the top-10 in were FGs missed (4th in '93) and FGs taken (8th in '93).

This is an absolutely laughable comparison.  Abdul-Rauf was a mediocre player who was a mediocre shooter who had a mediocre career.

Chris Jackson was one of the best pure college scorers I have ever seen.

Abdul Rauf was a facinating player but he wasn't as great as some are saying.  He wasn't a pure point guard, he didn't generally shoot efficiently, he was a horrible defender, he struggled to stay in shape at times.   I don't see how Who can claim he would average 25-30 points today.  I guess Dejaun Wagner would average 35pts.

Sounds like Phil attempted some damage control this morning.

How does commenting on Rauf mean I'm comparing him to Curry?

Phil is a grumpy old man, about to have one of his greatest accomplishments surpassed.

I hadn't even been thinking about the P.Jackson connection to this year's GSW run.  I am suddenly much more invested. Go Warriors!

Jackson's an idiot if he really believes it.

The "Get off my lawn" stuff from the old crowd against Golden State & Curry, in particular, is pretty sad.

There's a deep vein of snobbery against the reliance on jumpshooting in the old crowd, which I think comes from the "old wisdom" that the best players and the best teams were really strong inside and leaning on jumpshooting was flukey and even gimmicky.
You’ll have to excuse my lengthiness—the reason I dread writing letters is because I am so apt to get to slinging wisdom & forget to let up. Thus much precious time is lost.

That's the way I always took it - Phil was comparing their style of play, not their level of performance.  Obviously Rauf was nowhere near what Curry is doing, but the type of game he had was an early predecessor of Curry's game.

I'm kind of surprised how many people are taking it the other way but fans get really defensive about comparisons for whatever reason.
