I agree, Tanguay is a hack. But in reality he’s just another one of Felger’s tools.

It’s normal for me to drive four hours a day for work. I used to listen to 98.5 but got sick
of Felger playing marionette with the other supposed sports experts. When Massarotti
has his little on air fits, I imagine Felger is the one who winds him up like a toy.

What about that stupid Toucher & Rich commercial aired during Celtics games?
The listener calls to complain about the lack Celtics talk. They laugh and say, we just
talked about the Celtics for ten minutes. Like that’s a lot of coverage.  Meanwhile, they
talk for 30 minutes about their wife and kids, or what they did the night before.

Truth is, I haven’t listened to Felger and Mazz since Felger made his accusations about Pedro
Taking PED’s the day he was inaugurated into the HOF.  Classless POS!

The others at WEEI aren’t much better and Gerry thinks he’s Holier than Thou. Minihane is
another media tool. But they have good guests so I listen. Dale & Holy are palatable on my way home.

I wish there was better daily Celtics coverage.

The morning shows are pretty horrid. WEEI is better, but not great and lots of times not even ok.

Dale and Holley is decent. Felger and Mazz can be decent. Sometimes they'll say stuff you don't like to hear but it's still right.

I think Tanguay is a lot of fun if you accept that he almost never knows what he's talking about and tends to have poor capacity for logic.   I get a kick out of him.  He speculates as if he knows something, but a scratch of the surface always assures that he really knows no more than you or me.  But I do find him entertaining.   The likelihood that Tanguay has deciphered the code and figured out the mystery man is microscopic.

Tanguay is the classic straight man out of the old comedy routines--from vaudeville up through variety TV. It takes something to be comfortable with that role.

Wow, people are being way too hard on the guy.  Let's break down the evidence:

- Anthony Davis is a player in the NBA.
- Anthony Davis wasn't linked to us in rumors.
- Anthony Davis is a man.
- Anthony Davis may have seen one or both new Sherlock Holmes movies (and therefore is "mysterious").
- "May" is one of the journalistic "weasel words", that can be used for any degree of possibility.
- It's not impossible that Davis was the target.

Therefore it's a completely accurate story.  A lot of you guys are feeling pretty foolish right now I bet.
I agree. I think Tanguay was actually the most reasonable voice on TV or radio during the trade talks. When everyone was arguing the Celtics needed to trade the picks and players for any star, Tanguay was preaching patience and laughing at the idea of throwing away the cap space, young talent and future draft picks for a star who is not a top 5 player in the league.

Tanguay was pretty consistent saying he would only trade for a top 5 player or a young up and coming player. Griffin and Love were already hitting their peak and he argued if we stripped our team and the draft picks that we wouldn't be able to be better than the Clippers. So why mortgage everything to not be good enough to win it.

People hate him because he says the opposite of what people want to hear but what he says is usually pretty accurate.

Don't look now that's a lot of sarcasm flying right over your head.

I know you are trying to be cute but the point of the post was to point out that Tanguay was just writing a possibility like any other article written on rumors.

The part I was agreeing with was people being too harsh on Gary. He wasn't writing about anything other then speculation. Not his fault people got bent out of shape.

Nice try buddy.

There's a big difference between "rumors" which hopefully have sources (you know, what reporters and writers do and get paid to do) and baseless speculation.  If you want to pat Gary on the back for making up a story about something he clearly doesn't know much about go ahead.  I'll call a spade a spade.  Just another sports media hack in the Boston area.

You just quoted someone who was bashing Gary like they were defending him.  They were not.

How is Gary a hack? You lose all credibility right there. He's been on the air for a very long time. He's obviously doing something right.

And so what if you don't like his speculations. He's in the business of entertaining. Get over it.

Gary is annoying.  I don't care if he's been on the air.  Get over it. He is the typical media guy who runs with anything before researching it.

The celtics removed him as the celtics broadcaster and inserted Draper because Heinsohn couldn't stand him he was so annoying.

Toucher and Rich's strength isn't sports, never was and never will be.  I know it's 98.5 the sports hub, but they are at their best when they aren't talking sports at all (or are doing drunken redsox/bruins recaps).  That's why I don't hold it against them at all that they suck at it.  I wish 98.5 would just let them do what they want 100% of the time, leave the straight sports talk to WEEI in the morning.

With that said, I do agree that across the board there is a complete lack of Celts coverage in Boston.

Can we just change the title of this thread to "Gary Tanguay is a hack" and leave off the rest?  Then maybe sticky it?

I would link his latest concern trolling garbage, but I don't want to give him extra page views.  It's called "C's have Brad's personality and that's fine . . . for now"

Then he goes on to say that "you will not find a bigger fan of Brad Stevens than me" but " This team has Brad Stevens' personality. This also means the Celtics are like a college team, which Mike also pointed out. College teams are a reflection of their coach" and "It won’t raise an 18th banner to the Garden rafters . . . and, after all, isn’t that what is all about? College teams don’t win NBA titles."

This is just trolling, right?  Please, I beg you, do not look that article up and read it.  Don't give him the clicks.
