If deal is agreed to at 2:59 pm and sent to the league office for approval, there will be no announcement until league approval happens, which could be 2 or 3 hours later.

So if we have heard nothing by 3:00, it doesn't mean a deal wasn't happened.

Aren't there also rules about "in progress" trades, where negotiations started before the deadline can continue until after?

I'd bet less than half of the total people on this board knew the day, especially considering how much guests outnumber active posters (I had forgotten, and I consider myself one of the most hard-core basketball fans on the site).

Let the jokes commence about how I'm no where near the most hard-core basketball fan if I forgot what day the deadline is (but really, I just don't care if I find out at 3PM from my phone or 11PM when I get home, or 7AM tomorrow morning if I get home too drunk and forget to check, it doesn't change anything).

All I care about is Friday, 10:30 PM ET.

You need to have placed a call to the league office by 3.  I'm not sure what the rules (written or otherwise) are about continuing to negotiate while you're waiting your turn.
