Regardless of the feasibility of a 4 team deal or if it's ok to overpay, I just don't see Ainge and CBS having interest in Monroe. They didn't go after him as a FA, and haven't expressed interest since. He doesn't seem like their type of player, and wouldn't add much to this team imo. If we trade for a highly paid center he better be a defensive force, not a slightly taller and thinner Sully.

True an over pay is always bad but in any reasonable trade the aggressive team (team landing the best player) typically has to concede to a perceived over pay. The teams that usually get the real value in a trade are the facilitating teams who help make cap numbers work. This facilitating role has helped the Cs (Zeller trade). I do not think Sully (likely to be over payed as FA), Lee ( out of the rotation), 2 late 1sts (do the cs have roster room for more rookies?) and a 2nd is an overpay if DA and BS feel like Monroe can be a long term fit.

Conversly another money analogy might be would you trade  2 $1 dollar bills 6 quarters 20 dimes and 150 pennies for a $5 Bill.

Your sent out more total value but your wallet fits in your pants better.

what have you got against four team trades??

This exercise that we engage in -- coming up with trade ideas -- is inherently silly, because as fans we just have no idea about all of the moving parts and the backroom stuff.  How these negotiations work, that sort of thing.

The complications increase exponentially as you increase the number of teams.  I don't think this is going to be an especially active deadline and I definitely don't think we're going to see a four team blockbuster with players going four different ways.  There are just too many places where it can break down.

If the point of proposing these trade ideas is just to have fun, then there's nothing wrong with it.  If you actually want to come up with plausible ideas, proposing multi-team trades is not a good way to do it.

4 teams deals are not that infrequent. Ainge can handle it. I even recall him doing a 5 team deal once.

4 teams trades are pretty rare.  The Bynum/Howard 4 team trade is the last one I remember.
